Obituary of Rose Mae Swyers

Funeral Services for Rose Mae Swyers of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. John Zellmer, retired pastor, and Rev. Stephen McLane, church pastor, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott West, Bud Hellmann, Chris Steen, Nicholas Settles, Adam Pingleton and Zach Fernau. Mrs. Swyers, 88, passed away late Sunday night, February 5, 2023, at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, MO. Born February 8, 1934 in Bunker, MO, she was the daughter of Edgar and Nova Lee Copeland Sutton. Rose was united in marriage on November 29, 1975 to Wilbur Edwin Swyers. She was employed as a cashier for Walmart. Rose was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Nova Sutton; two sisters: Shannon Barton and Carol Smith; two brothers: Edgar Sutton and Curney Sutton; one stepdaughter, Jan Wood; and her beloved husband of 38 years, Wilbur Swyers who died on February 23, 2014. Survivors include her children: Debra Douglas of Troy, MO, Patricia Settles and her companion, Bud Hellmann, of Wentzville, MO, Michelle Creech and her companion, Scott West, of Troy, and Kevin Pingleton and his wife, Sandi, of St. Peters, MO; one stepdaughter, Kathy Swyers of O’Fallon, MO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose also leaves one sister, Mary Martin of Rolla, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church.
