Q: How would you describe Donald to someone who had never met them?
A: I remember Don auctioneered at the KC Hall in Old Monroe all night to the end at a cancer fundraiser for my brother,Jim Leiling. I will never forget Don doing this for my brother. It does my heart good to think Don and Jim are laughing, fishing, and hunting right now together and talking about old times. Don was a very giving person

I have so many memories of my little brother, Tec. I have beautiful memories as we were kids, teens and as adults. As we had our own families, we stayed very close. His family came to our house on Friday nights and we had such wonderful visits. We had lots of barbecues, frying fish and frying chicken. My husband Jim and Tec were like brothers! When Jim passed away, Tec continued to come to my house on Sunday mornings to visit with me. I treasured those visits and he was faithful to making sure to do this on Sunday mornings. Tec was always there for me. I miss you very much and a big piece of my heart went with you. I know we will meet again. I love you and miss you very much. Give Jim a hug for me. Love, Toots

Dear Dad,
It is so hard to wrap up my thoughts to finish up this tribute book, but I know I need to wrap things up because it is going to be printed very soon.
Dad, you have always been my hero and now you will be my superhero guardian angel watching over me from above. I miss you constantly and the hole in my heart is very big and forever it will hurt missing you. Thank you for the memories.
Thank you for always encouraging, supporting, comforting, guiding, listening, and leading me each and every day in every ways. I have always looked up to you as you encouraged me to grow in my public speaking skills. You have encouraged me when life gets difficult. You have taught me the importance of grit, confidence, and the necessity of standing up for myself in life. You have taught me to hold my head high, not to compare my life to the life of others, to stay humble and to keep the faith. I feel you all around me already in the days that have passed since you went to heaven.
Please keep watch over my family and me. I will do my best to take care of mom and the house. I will still attend estate auctions looking for that great deal, and smile when I think about hearing your voice up there as the auctioneer. I will get outside often to look for you and to feel you around me. I will work to instill the values of family, honesty, hand work, and at times courage in my own kids as they grow up and become adults with families of their own. Please give Uncle Jim and Grandma Parr big hugs for me in heaven. Ask Jesus to keep guiding me and leading my path toward his goals for my life.
I hope I make you proud! All my love dad, from your little girl, from Sis—-

Q: Where did Donald like to travel?
A: My dad loved to go to our place at the Lake of the Ozarks. He could be found down on our dock fishing all day long while at the lake. He knew everyone who fished down there and they knew him. He loved spending time down there sharing stories with the other guys on the dock, laughing with my kids when they came down to fish with him but would grow impatient quickly, and looking at the boats as they came by.
My dad would only come up from fishing to eat a meal and would then head back down to the dock for more fishing as soon as he could to catch more fish.
He loved spending time at the lake with our family as well. We all enjoyed our laughs at the State Park together, our many breakfasts at the Rusty Rooster, and our laughs and jokes told while walking around on the dam and always visiting Dogpatch the country store for some laughs!!
My kids and I will always treasure the light in your eyes dad when you would catch a fish, see a deer, share a laugh, or play a card/board game with us at our lake place. We enjoyed many BBQ burgers out on our deck at the lake together with you dad and I got you addicted to those margaritas that you grew to enjoy so much!! We will treasure your memory and all of your duck decor that we have surrounding us at our lake place to remind us of your love for us!

Q: Describe where Donald worked and what they did
A: Dad was a land surveyor. He started up his own business called Tri-County Engineering and Surveying in 1980 and he worked hard growing that business ever since. My dad literally left his mark, land marks and flags on many many pieces of land across the counties over many many years. He had many trials and tribulations as a land surveyor and crazy experiences from having the cops called on him for being on a property surveying, being bitten by dogs, and stung multiple times by stirring up a bunch of yellow jackets, he took it all in stride and accomplished so much! Both of my brothers worked with my dad at different points in his career and I know they both carry many treasured memories and unique stories with my dad as well. He served as the Lincoln County Surveyor for multiple terms and it kept him very busy. He was honored to serve as an elected official.
We are all so proud of your accomplishments dad!

Q: What was Donald really good at?
A: Dad was really good at auctioneering. He taught himself how to do this and it was a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed! He loved to auction items and to help a crowd come alive over bidding for items.
Dad was really a great listener and a really quiet person who liked to listen and let information soak in before making decisions
He was really good at hunting and fishing and he enjoyed both activities thoroughly. He loved being outdoors as much as possible and felt most comfortable in nature.
He was really good at helping others feel comfortable and helping to ease others minds when people are stressed. He is great at comforting others and being a calm and peaceful voice to others.

I first met Tec when I worked at the Recorder of Deeds office. He would come in to check surveys or look up information on property. He always stopped and visited with us. He was such a nice man !! One day when my husband and I were at an auction I saw Tec auctioneering. Wow ! I was surprised to see him doing that !! I couldn't wait for him to come back in the office to talk to him about it. He was a great guy and I know he will be dearly missed. Sending my most heartfelt sympathy to all the family.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Donald?
A: One of my favorite qualities of Tec, is his caring heart! He loved everyone and cared for them. Sandy is the oldest of us girls, so she started dating Tec when we were pretty young still. He was always so good to all of us. We would get straight A's in school to get tickets to the Cardinal ballgame and Sandy and Tec would always take us down there. He would do anything for you. He auctioned me off at my wedding, he was a great auctioneer. He will be greatly missed by all, but especially by his family! He was a true family man and raised two great boys into men and Sherry is a great mom and woman. I'm sure he is watching over everyone still to this day! RIP Donald "Tec" Parr!

Q: What will you never forget about Donald?
A: I will never forget the look on Tec's face the first Easter Sunday he ate at Mom and Dad's house. My Dad had a tradition of cracking a hard boiled egg on whoever was sitting next to him, to his left or his right, you never knew who it would be. Tec came over and he sat to Dad's left. Him and Sandy hadn't been dating very long and I am sure Tec didn't think Dad would do that to him. Well the eggs got passed around and Dad took that hard boiled egg and cracked it over Tec's head! He didn't know what to say! The look on his face was priceless.

Grandpa words cannot describe how bad my heart hurts. You raised me from such a young boy to a man, you taught me how to hold a gun and how not to hold a gun. I still remember the time when we were in Paris, MO and I had such a big fish on the line I missed it and you picked up the line and caught the fish and asked me if I wanted to kiss it because that’s what you’re suppose to do with every fish you catch. From the funny faces you use to make at me across the table that I made back at you, and from watching baseball with you. I won’t forget how you snored or how you could fall asleep literally anywhere- in your chair, on the couch, on the living room floor, etc. You always woke up so early but fell asleep so early also. I remember any time I got hurt you use to tell me “well guess we have to cut it off since it hurts so bad” and that would make me laugh inside every time. I remember the first time I ever went duck hunting with you and how it was so beautiful outside and how bad I was freezing but I didn’t care because we were having fun. I will miss you so much, I’ll love you forever Grandpa.

Q: What was Donald really good at?
A: Dad was really good at auctioneering. He loved it and he was very talented in this area. He really loved helping families with estate sales, selling machinery and equipment, and most especially being involved with Ducks Unlimited events. He loved auctioneering for charity events and church dinner auctions well.
Dad was really good at helping others around him feel comfortable and supported in all situations. He was very good at being genuine and compassionate toward others and gave a large amount of his time to helping others in many volunteer avenues.
He was truly a gentle giant and a big teddy bear to everyone who knew him well.

I am heartbroken! All this feels like a movie! We have had so many memories together! The lake condo was one of my favorite times with you! Every time you were at the lake we would always fish together! Now it’s gonna be so hard to even step a foot on the dock without remembering all those good fishing days! But, I guess someone I will always love will be fishing in heaven! I am super glad this summer we got to take you on a boat ride! It seemed you really enjoyed the lake! I will also miss hearing you talk and laugh when we go to your favorite place to eat at the lake called Rusty Rooster! Second, I will always cherish the memories we had on holidays! Every time we had a holiday it seemed you always were so happy and always laughing and having a good time! Third, I am really gonna miss the family trips without you! You were always so excited for trips and they were always such a blast! I will always remember the times we went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee! Also, had a blast at all those shows you would take me and Blake to in Branson, MO! Last, I will always miss all the times we go to your house to eat and hang out! I’ll miss all the baseball and sports channels we used to watch! Now, when we got to grandmas it’s so hard not to see you in your chair in the living room watching tv or even at the kitchen table! It is so crazy that the last time I would see you is at Sami’s Restaurant in Troy, Missouri! I know we had a good time chatting at the dinner table but I really do wish I gave you a hug and said I love you for the last time!! I love you SO MUCH Grandpa and you will forever be missed!

I always remember how much my grandpa really loved the lake. I even remember the day we got are lake place and we were all so exited to make so many memories and do so many things as a family. One thing that I will always miss doing is going to the lake with my grandpa to fish. My grandpa loves to fish so much that he used to do it all day long while we were at the lake. Another thing that I will never forget is the first time we took my grandma and grandpa on are boat. At first I think they were not sure about it but once they were on the boat and we were going all around the lake they absolutely loved it. I could just see it in my grandpa and grandmas face that they loved it because they always had a huge smile or face expression on there face. But I am so glad that we got to take my grandpa on are boat before he passed away because we made a ton of memories out there on the water. Another thing that I will always remember is trying this place called the Rustic Rooster at the lake. When my family ate there for the first time we absolutely loved it so much the food was so good and we loved the environment. Another thing that I will miss is going hunting or going to walk around in the woods with my grandpa. He always would shoot guns with me and do other things that maybe I didn’t know how to do that were just so much fun that I will miss. Lastly, one more thing I am going to miss forever is going on vacation with my grandpa. He was so fun to go on vacation with because he would tell us new facts and new things that I would not know and he was always just so happy on vaction. I will truly miss these memories but overall I know that my grandpa is in a better place. I will sure miss you grandpa and I love you so so much!

So many memories of Dad but of course my fondest are those from us hunting together. I remember my first duck hunt with dad like it was yesterday. Went to B.K. leach conservation area. Agent told us there would be a boat available for use to get to the blind we picked. There wasn’t any boat, so dad carried me on his shoulders out to the blind cause I didn’t have any waders yet. Few cuss words later we were in the blind hunting. Right at shooting time a mallard drake flew over, dad called and it turned and was coming right into the decoys. Dad kept saying shoot but I waited till it landed on the water, figured that’s easier shot than flying right? Finally pulled the trigger and from that moment on my passion for the outdoors was ignited!! We killed 3 mallards that morning, next 2 were flying as dad taught me was the way it’s supposed to be done lol!
My earliest memory of deer hunting was one particular opening day of rifle season where temps were in the teens and there was about 6” of snow on the ground. I wasn’t even old enough to carry a gun yet. I got so cold I went back to the truck before daylight, but went back cause I wanted to be there with dad. He finally got cold too so we decided to leave. As we were walking out an 8 point buck and a doe darn near ran into us! Dad raised his trusty Marlin 30/30 and shot that buck running full speed. Best shot I’ve ever seen still to this day! Dad was and still is a hunting legend in my eyes! He instilled in me the same passion for the outdoors that he had, and for that I’m forever grateful!! So many stories but not going to fill this whole book up haha! So thanks for everything you did for me dad. I miss you like crazy but I know you are always with me in spirit. I feel your presence daily. I love you dad, RIP….

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Tec for many years when he volunteered his time for the St Charles Ducks Unlimited banquet. We always worked the auction together and if you have ever been to a St Charles Ducks Unlimited banquet, we had to be prepared for anything. We would always laugh and both take deep breaths before starting. One year I was bidding myself on an item and I completely forgot to get a bid number. I won the bid and Tec turns to me and says “bidder number?” “I responded “double zero”. Tec looked and me and said “that’s an old auctioneers trick”. I had to explain to him that I grew up in a family that helped out and worked at auctions. Every year we would laugh and tell that same story. It was a great memory. Tec was a great man and wonderful volunteer who donated his time for several organizations. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers be with the family.

Q: What will you never forget about Donald?
A: To my Second Dad,
Wow, where do I begin? We have had a lot of great times and have made a lot of memories together. It is truly hard to put into words all that you have meant to me or all of the memories that I will carry with me from our times together. I will do my best to highlight a few of the memories that really stand out in my mind at the moment to celebrate.
First, I will forever remember that first duck hunt that you and Kevin took me on when we got our limit within the first couple of hours. I will never forget you telling me over and over that it wasn't the normal hunt and that it usually didn't happen that way, as this was a lucky day. You were absolutely right on that one, as I went on other hunts and we sat and sat for hours and never saw a thing and simply froze out there without a thing to shoot. Even then, you were so content and happy, it was obvious that hunting was truly your happy place and where you felt the most peace in the world.
The next memory I will cherish is our fishing trip at Hunnewell Lake. I remember that I was driving that trip and I didn't realize that I was approaching a railroad crossing or that I needed to slow down. I was pretty much pedaling to the medal my normal approach when suddenly, we were completely airborne with all 4 tires off the ground and I was panicking. Normally, this would have been awesome and exciting for me, but not with my father-in-law in the truck. I remember you laughing and smiling about the whole thing and that just put me at ease, we have laughed about this experience so many times over the years. We ended up having a great crappie fishing trip together and it was a wonderful experience all around.
The final memory and probably the most influential memory that I will take with me forever was the day that I was so nervous when I asked you on the deck if I could ask you for your daughter's hand in marriage. I was forever blessed when you said yes. Your daughter has always believed that you hung the moon and she has looked up to you as her rock all through her life. I knew I would have big shoes to fill, as she has always been so proud of you and bragged about you since the first day I met her. She is going to be lost without you, but please know, I will be here for her. Since we have been married, she has often said I remind her so much of you, as I continue to strive to be funny like you and to make her proud each and every day.
As you know, I keep my promises and I will always take care of your little girl and the family!! You will be greatly missed!
Finally, I will close with a famous Tec Parr phrase I won't forget he often said about getting through tough times...(Shit house mouse...).
You will be greatly missed by my family! We all love you so much!

Q: What was Donald's favorite recipe?
A: My dad really enjoyed a good meal and looked forward to trying a new restaurant any chance that he could. He enjoyed trying new restaurants when traveling out of town and was always looking for great seafood when we would travel to any beach town. My dad was definitely a meat, potatoes, and vegetable kind of guy. He loved fried chicken and mashed potatoes as well. He equally loved to eat fried fish on Friday nights, not just during Lent but all year long, as much as possible. He loved his seafood as well, and each year my mom and he would go to Red Lobster for their Anniversary dinner as it was their tradition. My dad was a great cook and he fried the best chicken and fish around my family looked forward to his fried potatoes the most as they were a family favorite that we looked forward to each and every time the family would get together for a fish or chicken fry. I will sure miss those...

Q: What will you never forget about Donald?
A: I will never forget so many memories with my dad it is almost impossible to capture them all in this post. I will never forget his constant support of me and encouragement of me as an athlete in school. He took me to countless soccer, basketball, and volleyball practices, games, and tournaments. I will never forget our travels together to these events, his coaching and support of me on the court, and our many on-the-road breakfasts while traveling to tournaments as they were very treasured moments.
I will never forget how proud you were of me on my wedding day and how special that day was to have you there and the many special moments of that day throughout the day just having you there on that very special day.
I won't forget how grateful I was to have you at the hospital each and every time I had to go there for different surgeries (good and bad) and how comforted I felt to wake up each time and know that you would be there standing by my bedside. I always knew that everything would be ok no matter what because you were by my side, and you didn't have to say a word for me to feel your love and support right there by me all along the way. You always helped me through tough times with your calm and comforting demeanor. I will never forget how proud you were of each and every one of my kids and how much you enjoyed spending time with them as often as possible. I won't forget you showing my kids the value of the outdoors - walking through the woods, hiking, hunting, fishing, shooting guns, hunting mushrooms, and countless other outdoor things. We will always feel you the most outside. Thank you, Dad.

Q: What will you miss most about Donald?
A: This question feels impossible to answer as just one single thing as my dad can't possibly be summed up in one thing to be missed.
I will miss his smile. My dad had a smile that was so big and contagious! My kids always made my dad smile as he was so proud of them! I will miss how he smiled listening to the kids tell stories about school, life, our many trips, and adventures. His smile could light up a room and help put everyone in a great mood at any given moment.
I will miss his laugh, as my dad was quite the jokester. He loved to tell jokes, play pranks, and say funny play-on-word phrases to make everyone laugh. Once he started laughing, everyone would get laughing until we were all crying, and it was always so good for our souls.
I will miss how he kept all of us informed of things that were going on in the world due to his voracious love of reading. My dad read newspapers everywhere we went. He loved to read, and could always be found devouring a local paper or magazine in any little town or big city we visited throughout our lives. He loved to read and be "In the loop" of all that was going on in the world.
I will miss hearing him auctioneer as it was his absolute favorite hobby and I was always so proud of him and his amazing talent at being an auctioneer. My dad was an outstanding auctioneer and every time I was able to watch him in action it gave me goosebumps because I was so proud of him. He loved it so very much and it was a passion of his no matter what he was auctioning off from estate sales, charity events, machinery, equipment, Ducks Unlimited events, etc. I will sure miss hearing him in action at those events and watching him bring the crowd to life each and every time.
I will miss my dad in many ways, and I know my kids will miss their grandpa, and we are so grateful and thankful for his many talents and gifts that he shared with the world.

Q: What 3 words best describe Donald and why?
A: Uncle Tec was very caring, quiet and devoted! He always put his family first and had the biggest heart. He was always making everyone around him happy. We had barbecues, chicken and fish fries. He could fry that fish and chicken for the whole family and it was always so delicious. I remember going to their house by Allen Hoelting’s house when I was a young girl. My Uncle always had the biggest smile. I especially remember this at all of our family get togethers. I know he never missed one. He was devoted. I remember going fishing with Uncle Tec and my dad when I was a young girl. I always remember his big gardens, too. He always shared with his family from his garden. He had a quiet quality which I loved about him. This quality reminded me of his mother. Thank you for all of these memories, Uncle Tec. I love you and you will be missed!!!

Q: What 3 words best describe Donald and why?
A: Hardworking- Dad has always worked hard at everything he has done in life. He has been dedicated to surveying, auctioneering, serving in his church, and making sure the needs of his family are taken care of at all times.
Loyal- Dad was very loyal to his friends and family. He was loyal to anyone who made a promise to and always delivered on his commitments. He remained loyal to the community, his career, and to our family through good times and bad.
Independent- Dad was very strong-willed and stubborn at times about things due to his need to be independent in his thinking. He wasn’t afraid to go against the grain and was often confident and even stubborn on his thinking once he had a decision in his mind. He would say his way was the right way in most situations and then laugh about it- and many times he was right. Dad instilled in me early on as a child that decisions didn’t have to be popular but that they had to be mine for me to live with them and be happy with them no matter the outcome.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Donald?
A: One of my favorite qualities of my Dad is his huge heart and sensitive soul. My dad was not afraid to embrace his emotions at any time and I know I get my ultra emotional sensitive personality from him. My dad could tear up when happy, sad, proud, when telling a story, reading the paper, or watching the news. He always helped me understand and embrace that emotion shows genuine care and compassion and empathy for others. This is a gift I will always cherish that I have inherited from him. My dad was such a genuine soul who had compassion for everyone around him. He had a heart of gold.
