Obituary of Melvagene Margaret Chilcutt

Melvagene Chilcutt, 93, of Elsberry, Mo, passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 24, 2022. She was born on April 27, 1929, in Rector, Arkansas, and was the daughter of the late Woody and Gladys McClusky Dale. Melvagene was united in marriage to Dick Chilcutt on May 15, 1946, in Piggott, AR. They were married for 66 years. She loved to sew, quilt, bake, can, volunteer at church, and spend time with her family. Everyone knew Melvagene as an extraordinary quilter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She started working at RC Can in November 1954. She worked the third shift while her children were sleeping, and her husband could be home watching the kids. She retired from RC Can, then known as Boise Cascade in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Chilcutt, parents Woody and Gladys McClusky Dale; brothers, James Dale, Earl Dale, Carl Dale, Eulis Dale, L.J. Dale, Eldo Howard Dale, Gerald Dale, and Clifford Dale; sisters, Mary Dale Yates, and Imogene Milligan; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Chilcutt. Melvagene is survived by her two sons, Howard (June) Chilcutt, of Naples, FL, and Gary Chilcutt of Dardenne Prairie, MO; daughter June (Steve) Foss of Winston Salem, NC; eleven grandchildren, Mike Roesslein, Charlene (Eric) Connors, Jenifer (Jason) Fallert, Shelley (Rob) Bliss, Jeff (Stacey) Chilcutt, Joe (Angie) Chilcutt, Robin (Aaron) Ruckman, Gia (Jason) Linville, Jayme (Joe) DeLisi, Jake Foss, Lindsey (Basant) Foss Sanghera; and 27 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was a very loved “Granny” and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at New Hope Baptist Church; 11 Cardinal Ln, Elsberry, MO 63343. Immediately following the visitation, Rev. John Zellmer, former church pastor, will officiate with services and burial in New Hope Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in care of Carter Ricks Funeral Home; 107 S. 5th Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
