Obituary of James Elston Skinner, Sr.

Memorial Services for James Elston Skinner, Sr. of Elsberry, MO will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Bro. Ken Gamble, pastor of Silex Assembly of God Church in Silex, MO, will officiate. Full Military Honors will immediately follow the service. Inurnment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Mr. Skinner, 82, passed away Friday evening, September 30, 2022, at his home. Born October 22, 1939 in Winfield, MO, he was the son of Elston Glenn and Jennethie Marie Herring Skinner. Jim served his country in the United States Army from January 28, 1958 until honorable discharge on January 27, 1961. Jim pastored a number of Assembly of God Churches over the years including: Lewistown, Albany, Macon, Palmyra and Silex. Jim was united in marriage on April 14, 2012 in Silex to Betty Lou Achor. He loved the outdoors and was known to farm, hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elston and Jennethie Skinner; two sisters: Jacqueline May Skinner and Patricia McEntire; and two brothers: Thomas Skinner and Larry “Rick” Skinner. Survivors include his beloved wife of 10 years, Betty Skinner of Elsberry; four children; two stepchildren; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim also leaves one brother, Ronald Skinner and his wife, Betty, of Winfield; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Services at 12:00 noon Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (or) Dementia Society of America in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
