Obituary of Sharon Hegarty Smith Restelli

A Private Graveside Service for Sharon Lee Restelli of Troy, MO will be held May 6, 2022 at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville, IL to be followed by a private Celebration of Life. Mrs. Restelli, 82, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 10, 2022 at Mercy Hospital Lincoln in Troy, MO. Born May 5, 1939 in Jacksonville, IL, she was the daughter of John William and Helen B. Ogle Hegarty. Sharon was a 1957 graduate of Jacksonville High School and received her Associate’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Carbondale. Sharon’s employment career began as a retail fashion buyer for Bressmer’s, and she worked a variety of other jobs while raising her family. She was united in marriage on June 16, 1970 in Houston, TX to Victor Paul Restelli. Sharon enjoyed boating, cruises, shopping, dining out, family gatherings and children’s activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Hegarty; her brother, Donald Hegarty; her first husband Bernard Wayne Smith; her sister-in-law, Patricia Restelli Olwig; her son-in-law, Kenneth Balch; her great-grandson, Ryan Heffner; and her beloved husband of 49 years, Victor Restelli on August 12, 2019. Survivors include her children: Cari Smith of Troy, MO; Gary (Dawn) Smith, of Creve Coeur, MO, Candi Restelli Balch of Montgomery, TX and Dave Baer of Antonia, MO; ten grandchildren: Michael (Stephanie) Heffner, Jr.; Dale Heffner; Trisha Heffner; Crystal Balch (James) Sakahara; Sharon Heffner and Erik; Alex Balch; Amber Smith; Miranda Smith; Katelynn Balch (Dustin) Thomas and Shelby Baer; eleven great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren. Sharon also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Richard Olwig; sisters-in-law: Ginny Hegarty, Lorraine Smith Scott Markillie and Gerry Smith Schermer; former son-in-law, Michael Heffner; several in-laws, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
