Obituary of William Albert DeGerlia

Funeral Services for William Albert “Bill” DeGerlia of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Sam Byers, pastor of the Elsberry First Baptist Church, and Rev. Dr. Dossie Randle, Chaplain for BJC Hospice, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Waggoner, Brad Waggoner, Joe Brockman, Bryan Davis, Robbie Lovelace and Jimmy Lovelace; honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Lovelace, Charles Waggoner, Bennie Watkins, John Martin, Ronnie Vaughn, Sr. Jimmy Jeans, Mike Anderson, Dennis Lovelace, Terry Hammond, Larry Black, Don Beck, Tommy Kinion, Billy Collins and Randall Tolbert. Mr. DeGerlia, 82, passed away Friday morning, February 4, 2022, at his home in Elsberry. Born February 15, 1939 in Elsberry, he was the son of Charles Allen and Esther Mae Halsema DeGerlia. A lifelong resident of Elsberry, Bill was a 1957 graduate of Elsberry High School. He was united in marriage on December 17, 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Elsberry to Janice Lee Waggoner. This union was blessed with four children, Paul Albert, Paula Lee, January Lynne and William Adam. Bill was employed for many years as an ironworker for Alberisi Construction and Jacobsmeyer Construction through the Ironworkers Local #396 in St. Louis, MO, retiring in 2000. Bill was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the time he spent with friends while fishing. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Charles DeGerlia, his mother, Esther Patton; and twin infants, Paula Lee and Paul Albert DeGerlia in October, 1961. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Janice DeGerlia of Elsberry; their children, January DeGerlia and Adam DeGerlia, both of Elsberry. He also leaves one sister, Jeanni Patton of Kissee Mills, MO; his niece, Michelle Patton of Kansas City, MO, nephew, Brian Patton of Kissee Mills; several other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice or to Myasthenia Gravis Research in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
