A Mass of Christian Burial for Arthur Frederick Bange of Elsberry, MO was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. Fr. Raymond Hager, church pastor, officiated with burial in St. Peters Cemetery in St. Charles. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Oelkaus, Tom Oelkaus, Ed Oelkaus, Robert Bange, Mike Bange and John Bange. Honorary pallbearers were Stephen Brockgreitens, Bryon Betsinger, Bryon Betsinger, Jr. and David Crane.
Mr. Bange, 73, died Wednesday evening, November 29, 2006 at St. Joseph Healthcare Center in St. Charles, MO. Born December 9, 1932 in Sanborn, IA, he was the son of Valentine Henry and Genevieve Theresa Friedrich Bange. He served his country in the United States Army from February 5, 1953 until being honorably discharged January 13, 1955. He also served in the United States Army Reserves for 7 years. He was united in marriage on December 20, 1975 in St. Charles, MO to Alicia Marie Oelkaus. He was a farmer in the Pike County and Lincoln County areas for 50 years, retiring in December 2000. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Elsberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Genevieve Bange; and three brothers: Cecil Bange, who died as a young child, Joe Bange, who died in 1989 and Francis Bange, who died in 1992.
Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 31 years, Alicia Bange of Elsberry; two brothers: Bernard Bange and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry and Herbert Bange and his wife, Darline, of Eolia, MO; and two sisters: Isabelle Capps and Clara Hammond and her husband, Manford, all of Elsberry. He also leaves three brothers-in-law: Richard Oelkaus, Tom Oelkaus and Edward Oelkaus and his wife, Judy, all of St. Charles, MO; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Betsinger of St. Charles and Louise Bange of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. A Knights of Columbus Service will be held during the visitation at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2006 at the church. Memorials may be made to Masses or Knights of Columbus-Elsberry in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
