Obituary of Marjorie Marie Wagner Montgomery

Funeral Services for Marjorie Marie Wagner Montgomery of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at Star Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Roger Briggs, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Montgomery, 98, passed away Saturday evening, March 27, 2021 at SSM St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis, MO. Born January 16, 1923 in the Argentville community near Winfield, MO, she was the daughter of Benjamin Oren and Cora Parker Birkhead. Marjorie was united in marriage on November 3, 1940 in Annada, MO to Joseph Charles Wagner. This union was blessed with two children: Ben and Marcia. Marjorie was a loving homemaker and talented seamstress. Following Joe’s passing, Marjorie was later married again on January 10, 1999 in Elsberry to Marvin Derwood Montgomery. Marjorie was a longtime member of Star Hope Baptist Church, where she enjoyed helping out any way she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Cora Birkhead; three brothers: George Birkhead, Oren Birkhead, Jr. and James Donald Birkhead; four sisters: Helen Lee Tayon, Sharon Sue Benny, Martha Ellen Wayman and Dorothy Elaine Hilton; her first husband of 50 years, Joe Wagner, who died on June 15, 1991; and her second husband of 15 years, Marvin Montgomery, who died on December 13, 2014. Survivors include her children: Ben Wagner of St. Peters, MO and Marcia Fakes and her husband, Wes, of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren: Benjamin Wagner and his wife, Josie, Elizabeth Riley and her husband, Brad, Joshua Wagner, John Fakes and Sally Fakes-Kowalski and her husband, Matt; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Marjorie also leaves one brother, John Milton Birkhead and his wife, Linda, of New London, MO; one sister, Jean Frances Brown and her husband, Bob, of Troy, MO; one sister-in-law, Anna Mae Birkhead of New London; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
