Obituary of Virginia Lee Burkemper

A Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Lee “Ginny” Burkemper Old Monroe, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Father Tim Cook, Virginia’s nephew, of Webster Groves, MO and Father Richard Rath, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Alex Burkemper, Nathan Burkemper, Ben Gifford, Kyle Burkemper, Tyler Burkemper, Matt Richardson, Jim Hall and Travis Snider. Mrs. Burkemper, 91, passed away early Friday morning, March 26, 2021 at her home in Old Monroe. Born August 1, 1929 in Old Monroe, she was the daughter of Avery and Viola Hutton Hemmer. Virginia was a 1948 graduate of St. Charles High School in St. Charles, MO. She was united in marriage on June 9, 1948 in Old Monroe to Chris Richard Burkemper. This union was blessed with five children: Darrell, Bill, Charlene, Randy and David. Virginia was a loving homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where she participated in the Alter Society and quilting. Chris and Virginia enjoyed dancing and spending time with their family. Virginia was an avid card player and loved the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. She was preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Viola Hemmer; one son, Randy Burkemper who died on March 29, 2016; one son-in-law, George Gifford, who died on October 16, 2015; one sister, Bonnie Briegel; one brother, Kenneth Hemmer; several Burkemper in-laws; and her beloved husband of 66 years, Chris Burkemper, who died on March 7, 2015. Survivors include three sons: Darrell E. Burkemper and his wife, Janet, of St. Paul, MO, William J. “Bill” Burkemper and his wife, Joann, of Old Monroe and David L. Burkemper and his wife, Ann, also of Old Monroe; one daughter, Charlene M. Gifford of Moscow Mills, MO; twelve grandchildren: Lauren Hall and her husband, Jim, Sara Snider and her husband, Travis, Rebecca Richardson and her husband, Matt, Kaitlyn Burkemper, Lexi Burkemper, Alex Burkemper and his companion, Miranda Stahlhut, Nathan Burkemper and his wife, Lindsay, Ben Gifford and his wife, Erica, Kyle Burkemper and his wife, Chelsea, Tyler Burkemper, Jackie Burkemper Helms and her husband, Scott, and Rachel Burkemper; twenty-two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
