Obituary of John Heyward Robinson

Memorial Services for John Heyward Robinson of Winfield, Missouri will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home. Johnny, 75, passed away February 18, 2021, surrounded by loved ones at the VA Medical Center in San Diego, California. Johnny was born August 4, 1945 in Richmond, Washington to Jimmie Robinson and Eris Reynolds. He lived in Pocahontas, Arkansas in his early years, then was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He spent most of his summers in South Carolina with family. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. Johnny and Carolyn were married in September 1966. They lived in St. Louis County until 1986 when they moved to Winfield into the home that Johnny custom built. Johnny proudly came from a long line of Carpenters. As a General Contractor his strong work ethic led him to start his own business, J. Robinson Construction Company, which operated for over 50 years. He was a teacher and mentor to many in the carpentry field. Upon retirement he enjoyed woodworking as a master craftsman. He had a great love for music, and it was not uncommon to find him singing while working in his woodshop. He enjoyed traveling with family, hiking and camping in National Parks. Johnny will be remembered for his infectious laugh, sense of humor, and ability to tell a great story. He was loved by many, a friend to everyone he met. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James and sister, Vickie. Johnny is survived by his wife, Carolyn of 54 years; daughter April (Jeff) Layton, son John (Shelley) Robinson and daughter Crystal (Jason) Eusebio; grandchildren: Nicholas (Katie), Alex, Ellen, Jazmyhn, Maile, Brandon, Tyler, and Riley; great-grandchildren: Joseph, Madilynn, and Sophie; his sister Alice (Edward) Cleary; and his cherished nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, March 5, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the VA Medical Center, San Diego for their exceptional and compassionate care; and to the many loved ones that supported and prayed for Johnny and family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 3838 East Highway 47, P.O. Box 253, Winfield, MO 63389.
