Carter Ricks Funeral Home Phone 573-898-2181 / Fax 573-898-3148 Newspaper Notice of Death Ava Nell Ross Memorial services for Ava Nell Ross of Elsberry, MO were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home officiated the service. Cremains will be buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Ms. Ross, 88, died Thursday afternoon, September 7, 2006 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born April 6, 1918 in Elsberry (Dameron), MO, she was the daughter of David "Hubbard" and Velma Beatrice Stewart Ross. Her father died in January of 1929 and her mother died in March of 1930. After her mother's death, she lived with her aunt and uncle, Harry and Nora Ross, for two years. In 1932, she moved in with her paternal grandmother, Mary "Mollie" Ross. She lived with her grandmother until 1954. She was a 1936 Elsberry High School graduate. After graduation, she worked at Wells Lamont Glove Factory in Elsberry. In 1954, she moved to Compton, CA and worked at Hunnewell Manufacturing. She was employed for almost 26 years as a machine operator with Hunnewell Manufacturing, retiring April 30, 1980. In 1981, she moved back to Elsberry where she lived until the time of her death. She was a Catholic by faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubbard and Velma Ross; her grandparents; several aunts and uncles; and one special cousin, Mike Meyer. Survivors include cousins: Jim Ross and his wife, Joyce, of Elsberry, MO, Norman Ross and his wife, Shirley of Lexington, MO, Anna B. Starns of Los Angeles, CA, Ted Heady and his wife, Helen, of St. Louis, MO and Glenn Heady and his wife, Pat, also of St. Louis; special relatives: Jimmy Ross, Allison Brower, Cole and Ross Brower, and Brendan and Molly Ross; several other relatives and friends. Cremation was handled through Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, per the wishes of Ms. Ross. Memorials may be made to the Joseph R. Palmer Memorial Library in care of Carter Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
