Obituary of Russell Ambrose Eggering

A Mass of Christian Burial for Russell Ambrose Eggering of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Church in Old Monroe. Father Richard Rath, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Old Monroe, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Ben Eggering, Tim Eggering, Shawn Vomund, Sam Runge, Luke Eggering, Dan Gorski, Caleb Tiller and Billy Baragiola. Mr. Eggering, 88, passed away Friday morning, October 16, 2020 at his home near Old Monroe. Born December 7, 1931 in Old Monroe, he was one of eight children born to Ambrose and Georgiana Burkemper Eggering. Russell served his country in the U.S. Army from March 18, 1954 until he was honorably discharged on February 15, 1956. He was united in marriage on November 17, 1962 in Troy, MO, to Gerry Kay Simmons. This union was blessed with three children, Sam, Sara and Paul. He and his brother, Randolph owned and operated Eggering Brothers Dairy Farm for many years. In 2000, Russell changed to crop and cattle farming, retiring in 2018. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing and, of course, the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Old Monroe American Legion Post #420, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Georgiana Eggering; one sister, Alice Schroeder in 2012; and two brothers: Thomas Eggering in 1937, and Randolph Eggering in 1993. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 58 years, Gerry Eggering of Old Monroe; their children: Sam Eggering and his wife, Debbie, of Old Monroe, Sara Wehde and her husband, Dick, of Old Monroe, and Paul Eggering and his wife, Susan, of Troy; nine grandchildren: Ben (Andrea) Eggering, Lauren (Shawn) Vomund, Kyle Eggering, Kayla Eggering, Abigail (Dan) Gorski, Anna (Caleb) Tiller, Samantha (Billy) Baragiola, Jared (Dana) Wehde, and Jennifer (Sam) Runge; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Daniel Eggering and his wife, Barbara, of Old Monroe; three sisters: Sally Creech of Troy, Norma Prinster and her husband, Henry, of St. Peters, MO, and Sister Donna Eggering of Indiana; several in-laws, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2020 Immaculate Conception Church in Old Monroe; and from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020.
