Obituary of Larry Dale Schieffer

Funeral Services for Larry Dale Schieffer of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2020 at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church near Elsberry. Abby Hall-Jones, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Thornhill Cemetery near Troy, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Bange, Jenni Puckett, Rose Privett, Damon Schieffer, Tori Edwards, Emma Edwards, Sydney Cowan, Joe Schieffer and Brock Howard. Mr. Schieffer, 64, passed away Thursday evening, October 8, 2020 at SSM St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born June 1, 1956 in Troy, MO, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Ruth Jane Martin Schieffer. Larry was a 1974 graduate of Troy High School. He was united in marriage on October 19, 1974 at Smith Chapel to Rebecca Louise Herring. This union was blessed with three children: Heather, Holly and Heath. Larry worked as a commercial electrician for VSM Abrasives. He was also a farmer for many years. Most recently, Larry was employed as a bus driver for the Elsberry R-2 School District. Active with agriculture, Larry was a member of the Missouri Extension, several pure bread swine organizations and served as a board member of the former Lincoln County Pork Board. Larry was a longtime member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth Schieffer; two brothers: Ray Schieffer and David Schieffer and his wife, Connie; and one sister, Ann Silverberg. Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 46 years, Becky Schieffer of Elsberry; their children: Heather Privett and her husband, Kevin, of Bowling Green, MO, Holly Edwards of Elsberry and Heath Schieffer of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren: Kyle Bange, Jenni Puckett, Rose Privett, Damon Schieffer, Tori Edwards, Emma Edwards, Sydney Cowan and Joe Schieffer; three special grandchildren: Mason, Lexi and Cru Holland; and one great-grandchild, Hunter Stewart. Larry also leaves four brothers: Howard Schieffer and his wife, Nancy, of Troy, LeRoy Schieffer and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Elsberry, Elsworth Schieffer and his wife, Gwen, of Cape Girardeau, MO and Randy Schieffer and his wife, Dinah, of Fort Myers, FL; four sisters: Jolene Mennemeyer of Old Monroe, Tammy Crouch and her husband, Larry, of Troy, Nettie Colbert and her husband, Dennis, of Eolia, MO, and Robin Law and her husband, Owen, of Tampa, FL; two brothers-in-law: Jay Herring and his wife, Sally, of Elsberry and Jerry Herring and his wife, Margie, also of Elsberry; one sister-in-law, Barbie Gilpin of Aberdeen, MA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church near Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Smith Chapel UMC (or) the Elsberry FFA in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
