Obituary of Richard Thomas Turnbull

Funeral Services for Richard Thomas Turnbull of Winfield, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. Dan Meers, of Kansas City, MO, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Turnbull, Brad Turnbull, Connor Turnbull, Jonathan Turnbull, Drew Turnbull, Ben Turnbull, Micah Huckabee and Chase Dreyer. Richard was born on August 5, 1939 in Troy MO to Archie and Martha Turnbull. He passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 9 days. He grew up on the family dairy farm with his two sisters and three brothers and attended New Salem Baptist Church He went to Winfield High School where he was the star of the Varsity basketball team and still holds the single game and four year scoring records. He was also one of the first elected to the Winfield Wall of Fame. He then went on to attend Hannibal LaGrange College where he continued playing basketball while studying to become a Baptist minister. He was united in marriage to Vivian Cannon on August 23, 1958 and they enjoyed 62 years of married life together. They had three boys, Kevin, Keith, and Kent. Growing up on the farm taught him the value of hard work which he demonstrated throughout his entire life. He was a bi-vocational Baptist Minister for 50 years spending most of that time pastoring at the Foley Baptist and Mill Creek Baptist Church’s. He worked 46 years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. And always had a huge garden and several chickens and cows because he needed something to do in his spare time. But with all of this, he always took time to spend with his family. Richard loved a lot of things in his life. First and foremost he loved the Lord, Jesus Christ. He accepted Him as his personal savior at the age of six and devoted his life to telling others about him. He dearly loved Vivian, his wife of 62 years and also really loved his family. He loved to eat, especially sweets and ice cream. And he loved to laugh and was a huge cut up, always looking for an opportunity to tease whoever was around. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Martha Turnbull, his two sisters Wilhelmine Shramek and Helen Phelps, and his three brothers, Arlie, Shelby, and Elba Turnbull, and his grandson Jeff Fey. He is survived by his wife Vivian Turnbull of Winfield,MO his three sons, Kevin Turnbull and his wife Donna of Winfield, MO, Keith Turnbull and his wife Karen, of St. Paul, MO, and Kent Turnbull, and his wife Angie of Wentzville, MO, 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several other family members and friends. While he is now at home with Jesus, he will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
