Obituary of Marvel Rae Buchanan

Ms. Marvel Rae Buchanan, 76, passed away Wednesday morning, August 5, 2020 at the home of her daughter near Elsberry, MO. Born July 18, 1944 in Desmet, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Floyd Charles and Ruth Valentine Howland Meyers. Marvel graduated from Desmet High School and went on to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse from St. John’s School of Nursing in Huron, SD. Marvel worked as an RN for the Elsberry Health Care Center. She loved to spend time with her family. Marvel often passed the time by reading, doing Sudoku puzzles and going to the casino. Marvel was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ruth Meyers; and one sister, Judy Payfer. Survivors include her daughter, Denise Grigsby and her husband, Bill, of Elsberry; four grandchildren: Kimberly Walcott and her husband, Chris, of Winfield, MO, Daniel Buchanan of Elsberry, Jennifer Brown and her husband, Dorey, of Moscow Mills, MO and Tiffany Grigsby of Elsberry; and eleven great-grandchildren: Kaylee, CJ and Kendayl Walcott, Heath, Ariel and Remy Buchanan, Kaylis, Gabby and Jewel Brown, and Carly and Isaac Grigsby. Marvel also leaves two sisters: Marvis Jenner, who was her twin, and her husband, Roger, of Brookings, South Dakota, and Pat Baumberger and her husband, Gary, of Ft. Pierre, South Dakota; one brother-in-law, Bill Payfer of Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
