Obituary of Raymon Ray Brightwell

Funeral Services for Raymon Ray Brightwell of Winfield, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. Lyndel Thompson of Bowling Green, MO and Rev. Will Steinbeck, pastor of Foley Baptist Church in Foley, MO, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Moreland, Jeremy Moreland, Danny Parsons, Daniel Parsons, Don Buretta and Dan Buretta. Honorary pallbearers will be David Meadows and John Herring. Mr. Brightwell, 94, passed away Sunday night, August 9, 2020 at his home. Born September 5, 1925 in Bethesda, AR, he was the son of John Harvey and Susan Elizabeth Haney. Raymon was a 1942 graduate of Cushman High School. He volunteered in the United States Navy where he served three years in Amphibious Forces in the South Pacific from Leyte Island to Okinawa. Raymon was recalled by the United States Army to serve during the Korean War from 1951-1952. Raymon was united in marriage in 1948 in Arkansas to Winona Leigh Gilbert. This union was blessed with four children: Melynna, Kendall, Cynthia and Alan. After 34 years of marriage, Winona passed away on May 22, 1977. Raymon was married again on June 18, 1986 in Wentzville, MO to Phyllis Margurite Copeland. Raymon worked as an electric lineman and right of way agent for Arkansas Power and Light, Le Meyers Company, Union Electric Company, Lemco Engineers, D. Ralph Young and Associates and Croft Electric. He later worked for Cuivre Electric, retiring in 1998. He loved woodworking and fishing. Raymon was a longtime member of Foley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Susan Brightwell; his brother, Dewell Dean Brightwell; and his first wife, Winona Brightwell. Survivors include his beloved wife of 34 years, Phyllis Brightwell; six children: Melynna” Mel” Wolk of St. Charles, MO, Kendall Brightwell and his wife, Suzan, of O’Fallon, MO, Cynthia “Cindy” Christ and her husband, Jim, of Troy, MO, Alan Brightwell and his wife, Rose, of St. Louis, MO, Tina Hanners of St. Louis and Lance Payne and his wife, Lisa, of St. Charles; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Raymon also leaves many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
