Obituary of James Pieper

James W. Pieper A Mass of Christian Burial for James William Pieper of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church near Old Monroe. Father Richard Rath, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery near Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Pieper, Dean Pieper, David Pieper, Bill Pieper, Craig Jungermann and Neil Orf. Mr. Pieper, 94, passed away early Sunday morning, August 2, 2020 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry, MO. Born March 11, 1926 in Old Monroe, he was the ninth of ten children born to Frank C. and Mary Bals Pieper. Jim was united in marriage on April 8, 1961 in Old Monroe to Shirley Pearl Krallman. This union was blessed with one daughter, Joann. As a young man, Jim worked for Palmer Dairy Farms near Old Monroe. He then began farming on his own with his brother, Norman “Red” Pieper until their retirement in 1985. An avid ballplayer, Jim played slow-pitch softball for many years, and enjoyed coaching Khourey League softball for several years. After 33 years of marriage, Shirley passed away June 5, 1994. Jim was married again on February 24, 1996 in Josephville, MO to Joan Marie Haas Groeblinghoff. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he sang in the choir, and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing and for many years managed Hawthorn Duck Club near Old Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Pieper; his first wife, Shirley Pieper; and eight of his siblings: George Pieper, Rose Johannesmann, Blanche Wilke, Eleanor Mensie, Clem Pieper, Madeline Kelly, Norman “Red” Pieper and Grace Pieper. Survivors include his beloved wife of 24 years, Joan Pieper of Old Monroe; one daughter, Joann Jungermann and her husband, Rob, of Moscow Mills, MO; five step-children: Jerry Groeblinghoff and his wife, Kathleen, of Wentzville, MO, Jeff Groeblinghoff of St. Paul, MO, Mary Kaye Groeblinghoff of Old Monroe, Lori Matejka and her husband, Rick, of St. Charles, MO, and Kelly McCoy and her husband, Jeff, of Troy, MO; twelve grandchildren: Rachel Orf and her husband, Neil, Craig Jungermann and his wife, Kaylyn, and Clara Jungermann, all of Moscow Mills, MO, Kristy Harms and her husband, Martin, of Wentzville, Leann Wood of Wentzville, Wayne Groeblinghoff and his wife, Sandra, of New Jersey, Joe Cushing and his wife, Heather, of Hawk Point, MO, Spencer Cushing of Silex, MO, Calvin Hoelting and his wife, Beth, of O’Fallon, MO, Lynn Bradley and her husband, Jared, of Columbia, MO, Steve Matejka and his wife, Cassie, of St. Charles, and Lizzy Matejka of Olivette, MO; and thirteen great, grandchildren. Jim also leaves one brother, Leonard “Len” Pieper and his wife, Jane, of Troy, MO; several in-laws, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield; and from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Mass at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Church.
