Obituary of Marsleen Steele Kerr

Funeral Services for Marsleen Steele Kerr of Elsberry, MO will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Brenda Cockrell, pastor of Centennial United Methodist Church in Elsberry and Rev. Charlene Wheeler-Williams, will officiate. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Antonelli Wroten, Greg King, John King, Kevin King, James Webster, Rodney Powell and Christopher Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be William Powell, Mark Powell and Donnie Kinsler. Mrs. Kerr, 64, passed away early Sunday morning, June 28, 2020 at her home. Born April 16, 1956 in Troy, MO, she was the daughter of Edward and Bessie Isabell Webster Steele. Marsleen was a 1974 graduate of Elsberry High School and went on to earn her Associate Degree from Sanford Brown College. Marsleen was united in marriage on June 15, 1974 in Vandalia, MO to Curtis Eugene Kerr, Sr. This union was blessed with two children: Curtissa and Curtis, Jr. Marsleen was known as “Mom” or “Momma” to many who individually had a special place in her heart. She was a genuine friend who was loving, kind, caring and always had patience and an ear to listen. Marsleen would give her shirt off her back to anyone in need of it. She was known for posting jokes on Facebook daily and local obituaries on the page “You Know You’re From Elsberry.” Marsleen always smiled and never knew a stranger and believed all things were possible through Christ. After meeting Marsleen, you felt as if you had known her for life and just felt so comfortable and walked away feeling God’s love. Marsleen worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for R&B Quarry, retiring in 1996. She was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #513 in St. Louis, MO. Marsleen served on the NECAC Board of Directors for 1 ½ years. Marsleen was a longtime member of Centennial United Methodist Church. Marsleen was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Isabell Steele; her sister, Charlene Wolfe; two brothers: Charles Steele, Sr. and Glen Steele; and her son, Curtis Kerr, Jr., who died July 13, 2002. Survivors include her beloved husband of 46 years, Curtis Kerr, Sr. of Elsberry; her daughter, Curtissa Kerr-Hunter and her husband, Ezra Allen, Sr., of Elsberry; her grandchildren: Charlyssa Kerr of O’Fallon, MO, Caytron Kerr of Elsberry, Cayllen Kerr and her fiancé, Zachary Cassaday; and Ezra Allen Hunter, Jr., and his wife, Kimberly, of Elsberry; her great-grandchildren: Prince Gabriel Harper, Briella Tijuan Tyson, DeVaun Kerr, Elaina Kerr and Ahamari Kerr; and her step-great-grandchildren: Donovan, Steven, Michael, Matthew, Savannah, Danielle and Katarina. Marsleen also leaves one brother, Milford Steele and his wife, Vivian, of Elsberry; her Godchildren: Shannon Dawkins, Shea Linson Erler, Michael Linson, Robert Lamberson, John King and his wife, Margaret, Greg King and his wife, Tori, Kevin King and his wife, Angie, Donnie King, Kayla King Schreiber and her wife, Molly, and Kimberly King-Martin and her husband, Dan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home.
