Obituary of Darlean Dorothy Hunter

Funeral Services for Darlean Dorothy Hunter of Foley, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Stephen McLane, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church will officiate with burial in New Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Kitson, Jr., Mike Lowes, Dewayne Kitson, Steve Radit, Roger Hunter and Cecil Collins. A mask is required to attend the visitation and service, and visitors must practice social distancing. Mrs. Hunter, 90, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 20, 2020 at her home. Born May 17, 1930 in Ethlyn, MO, she was the daughter of Arthur and Effie Perry Collins. Darlean was united in marriage on December 5, 1953 in Elsberry to James Theodore “Buck” Hunter. This union was blessed with four children: Sherry, Larry, Ricky and Rodney. Darlean worked as a seamstress for the Garment Factory, retiring in 1969. She was a member of New Hope and Star Hope Baptist Churches. She loved gardening, planting flowers and dancing the “Jig.” Darlean was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Effie Collins; four brothers: Otis Collins and his wife, Helen, Orville Collins and his wife, Alvina, Earl Collins and Clifford Collins; two sisters: Evelyn Collins and Elenore Wallace and her husband, Glenn; and her beloved husband of 37 years, James “Buck” Hunter, who died July 20, 1991. Survivors include her children: Sherry Hunter of Troy, MO, Larry Hunter and his wife, Carol, of Petersburg, MI, Ricky Hunter of Troy and Rodney Hunter and his wife, Tammie, of Foley; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Darlean also leaves one brother, Kenneth Collins and his wife, Terry, of Park Hills, MO; one sister, Wanda Regot of Warrenton, MO; two sisters-in-law: Helen Collins of Wright City, MO and Nona Collins of High Hill, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2020 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
