Obituary of William Edward Cox

Memorial Services for William Edward “Bill” Cox of Lee’s Summit, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Elsberry First Christian Church.  Rod Sederwall of Camdenton, MO, will officiate with inurnment in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. 


Mr. Cox, 65, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 8, 2019 at his home in Lee’s Summit.  Born August 21, 1954 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of Edward Palmer and Reiva Annalice Roberts Cox.  Bill was united in marriage on June 24, 1976 in Louisiana, MO to Lorene Jo “Buttons” McCollum.  This union was blessed with three daughters: Kelli, Kristin and Kimberly.  Bill worked for the Pike County Sheriff’s Office in his early years.  He began working as a Water Patrol Officer for the Missouri State Water Patrol in 1979.  He remained faithfully employed until his retirement as a Captain with the Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on August 1, 2011.  He was a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited.


Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Reiva Cox; one sister, Roberta Houston; and one brother-in-law, Charles Hammack.


Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 43 years, Lorene “Buttons” Cox of Lee’s Summit; their daughters: Kelli Culp of Lee’s Summit, Kristin Cox of Albuquerque, NM, and Kimberly Cain and her husband, Ryan, of Lee’s Summit, MO; and two grandchildren: Derek and Elsie Culp.  Bill also leaves one sister, Susan Hammack of Lee’s Summit; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
