Obituary of Beatrice Lorene Avery

Memorial Services for Beatrice Lorene Avery of Elsberry, MO will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.  Rev. Conrad Cheatham, pastor of the Mt. Zion ARPresbyterian Church, will officiate.

Mrs. Avery, 91, passed away early Friday morning, March 8, 2019 at Frontier Health & Rehabilitation Center in St. Charles, MO.  Born January 27, 1928 in Vergennes, IL, she was the daughter of Paul D. and Dovie Irene Moss Grohman.  She was a 1945 graduate of Vergennes High School and attended business school.  She was married to Vernon A. Corley for many years and he passed away in November, 1960.  She later married Richard Lowell Avery, who died on October 14, 1974.  Beatrice was employed for 42 years as a cashier for Jones Truck Lines, Inc. in St. Louis, MO, retiring in 1989.  She enjoyed coaching softball when her girls were young, loved gardening and bowling.  Beatrice was a member of the Mt. Zion ARPresbyterian Church near Troy, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dovie Grohman; both of her husbands, Vernon Corley and Richard Avery; three brothers:  Elmo Grohman, Melvin Grohman and Leo Grohman; and a step-daughter, Sara Avery.

Survivors include two daughters:  Linda Corley and her companion, Gary Powell, and Brenda Avery, all of Elsberry; one sister-in-law, Neoma Grohman of Desloge, MO; two nephews, Byron Grohman and Michael Grohman; one niece, Kathy Murphy; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until time of the service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
