Obituary of Shirley Elizabeth Oliver

Memorial Services for Shirley Elizabeth Oliver of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Elsberry United Methodist Church.  Graveside inurnment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry.  Rev. Floyd Gudde, Elsberry United Methodist Church pastor, will officiate.


Mrs. Oliver, 82, passed away Monday afternoon, December 17, 2018 in Warrenton, MO.  Born May 11, 1936 in Rector, AR, she was the daughter of Ivan Jennings and Eithel Lavel McLeskey Wilson.  Shirley was united in marriage on July 17, 1951 in Piggott, AR to James Samuel Oliver.  This union was blessed with six children: Steve Samuel, Scott Wayne, Susan Lee, Stacy Louise, Sheila Ann and Sharon Rose.  Shirley earned her GED in 1988.  She was employed as an Assistant Manager for KFC; and later as a seamstress for David’s Bridal, retiring in October of 2018.  Shirley was a longtime member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church.


Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Eithel Wilson; three brothers: James Irving Wilson, Doyne Dean Wilson and Brine Prentice Wilson; three sisters: Marguerite Lenell Ward, Neva Verhe Gones and Dortha Jean Cooley; two daughters: Sheila Farris, who died in 1999 and Sharon Thomas, who died in 2017; her grandson, Heath Heusted, who died in 2006; and her beloved husband of 45 years, James Oliver, who died November 20, 1996.


Survivors include four children: Steve Oliver of Mission, KS, Scott Oliver and his wife, Danice, of Elsberry, Susan Morgan of Elsberry and Stacy Erickson and her husband, Jason, of Austin, TX; one son-in-law, Jim Thomas of Kearney, MO; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren.  Shirley also leaves her special friend, Mack McLeary of Moscow Mills, MO; one brother, Jerry Wilson and his wife, Patty, of Elsberry; one sister, Carrol Clark of Warrenton; one sister-in-law, Glenda Wilson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
