Obituary of Odator Era Oates

 

Funeral Services for Odator Era “Dutch” Oates of Winfield, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Foley Baptist Church in Foley, MO.  Rev. Lyndel Thompson, church pastor, will officiate with burial in New Salem Cemetery near Winfield.  Serving as pallbearers will be John Francisco, Jason Wade Hutchins, Jr., William Anderson, Gavin Glimka, Jeff Watson and David Melvin Dillon.

           
Dutch, 94, passed away early Sunday morning, September 9, 2018 at her home.  Born April 1, 1924 in Wardell, MO, she was the daughter of Sterling and Era Bell Haslip Slavings.  She was united in marriage on May 17, 1947 in Pickett, AR to Melvin Harold Oates.  She was a longtime member of Foley Baptist Church.  She worked as a LPN at Pontiac General Hospital in Pontiac, MI, retiring in November of 1984.

           
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling and Era Slavings;
her son, Robert Lee Oates, who died in 1970; her daughter, Kathy Denise Francisco, who died in 2010; her son-in-law, Kenneth Francisco, Jr., who died in 2011; one sister, Norma Dean Slavings; eight brothers: Wright James, Heslip “Mut” Slavings, Ralph Slavings, Clifford Slavings, Eugene Slavings, Caroll Slavings, Virgil Slavings and Herman Slavings; and her husband, Melvin Oates.

           
Survivors include her grandchildren: John Francisco and his wife, Megan, of St. Clair, MO and Melissa Francisco of Winfield.  Dutch also leaves one brother, Daniel Slavings and his wife, Linda, of Noble, OK; two sisters: Jean Watson of Moscow Mills, MO and Carolyn Lou Moore of Saganaw, MI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

           
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.  Memorials may be made to the Family Odator “Dutch” Oates for final expenses in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home , 3838 East Highway 47, P.O. Box 253, Winfield, MO 63389.
