Obituary of Helen Louise Dodd

Funeral Services for Helen Louise Dodd of Troy, MO, formerly of Hazelwood, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. Barrett Dodd, pastor of Mill Creek Baptist Church near Silex, MO will officiate with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
Mrs. Dodd, 96, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 1, 2018 at the Sugar Creek Assisted Living Center in Troy. Born February 28, 1922 in Xenia, IL, she was the daughter of Reuben B. and Cleone P. Gibson Woomer. She graduated from Flora High School in 1939 and attended Brown Business College for 2 years. Helen was united in marriage on September 10, 1949 at the Christian Church in Xenia, IL. This union was blessed with two sons: George P., Jr. and Robin. Helen worked for several years as a secretary at Scott Air Force Base near O’Fallon, IL. She was a member of FRA – Fleet Reserve Association and the Gideons International Auxiliary. Helen was a 50+ year member of Florissant Presbyterian Church in Florissant, MO. After moving to the Assisted Living Center, she faithfully attended the FBC Winfield’s weekly services at Sugar Creek Assisted Living. She enjoyed playing Bingo, Dominos and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Cleone Woomer; one son, Dr. Robin Dodd who died in 2015; and her husband of 66 years, George Dodd, Sr., who died August 2, 2015.
Survivors include one son: George P. Dodd, Jr. and his wife, Carrie, of Winfield, MO, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Dodd of Tallahassee, FL. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Melissa Inglese and her husband, Marc, of Tallahassee, Katie Vogt and her husband, Brian, of Tallahassee, Matthew Dodd of Portland, OR, Andrew Dodd of Winfield, Miles Dodd and his wife, Katie, of Winfield, Barrett Dodd of Silex, and Phillip Dodd of Winfield; four great-grandchildren: Logan, Graham and John Baldwin Inglese, and Benjamin Vogt; and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
