Obituary of Lavern Edna Loesing

Funeral Services for Lavern Edna Loesing of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO.  Rev. Paul Garven, pastor of Elsberry United Methodist Church in Elsberry will officiate with burial in St. Charles Memorial Gardens in St. Charles, MO.  Serving as pallbearers will be Sara Byrne, Jake Byrne, Matt Loesing, Kevin Burkamp, Bobby White and Brandon Wiesehan.

Mrs. Loesing, 88, known to her family as “Duttie”, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 2018 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry.  Born November 28, 1929 in North St. Louis County, MO, she was the daughter of Fred and Lena Frueh Gronemeier.  She was Valedictorian of her high school class at Ferguson High School.  Lavern was united in marriage on December 5, 1953 in Blackjack, MO to Grover Albert Loesing.  This union was blessed with one son, Curtis.  She was a hardworking farmer and farm wife on the Loesing Family Farm.  Lavern was the treasurer at the Elsberry Senior Center for many years.  She loved bowling, gardening and collecting bells.  A love for baseball, Lavern played shortstop for her high school boys’ team and became an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.  Lavern was an active member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lena Gronemeier; two sisters: Norma Jean Gronemeier, who died as an infant, and Delores Burkamp; two  brothers-in-law Frank Burkamp and Ralph Wiesehan; and her beloved husband of nearly 32 years, Grover Loesing, who died November 28, 1985.

Survivors include her son, Curtis Loesing and his wife, Robyn, of Elsberry; three grandchildren: Sara Byrne of Little Rock, AR and her companion, Marshall Robertson, Jake  Byrne and his wife, Angela, of New York, NY and Matt Loesing and his wife, Erin, of Bakersfield, CA; three great-grandchildren: Taylor, Isaiah and Jason Byrne; her sister-in-law Merlyn Wiesehan, of St Charles.  Lavern also leaves one niece, two nephews, her cousins and many, many friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.  Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home , 3838 East Highway 47, P.O.
