Obituary of Margaret Mary O'Brien
A Memorial Mass for Margaret Mary O’Brien of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. Fr. Charles Tichacek, church pastor, will officiate. A private graveside service was held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the O’Brien Family Cemetery near Elsberry.
Mrs. O’Brien, 89, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2017 at her home near Elsberry. Born July 7, 1928 in County Cork, Ireland, she was the daughter of David Dan and Ellen Doody Curtin. Margaret was united in marriage on June 6, 1950 in Ferguson, MO to Edward John O’Brien. This union was blessed with twelve children: Ellen, Patricia, Edward, Bridget, Maureen, Peggy, Michael, Patrick, Donald, Sean, Brendan and Siobhan. She was a loving homemaker. Margaret was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the St. Ann Quilters. She was also a member of the Pike-Lincoln Quilt Guild.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ellen Curtin; four brothers: Dan, Mick, Jack and Tom Curtin; two sisters: Mae Lane and Joan Fitzpatrick; one daughter, Patricia Robertson; one son, Donald O’Brien; two sons-in-law: Larry Lenk and Ed Carson; and her beloved husband of 59 years, Edward O’Brien, who died February 5, 2010.
Survivors include her children: Ellen Schramm and her husband, Leroy, of Wentzville, MO, Edward O’Brien and his wife, Connie, of Clarksville, MO, Bridget Hummel and her husband, Chris, of Bowling Green, MO, Maureen Wommack and her husband, David, of Silex, MO, Peggy Carson of Chesterfield, MO, Michael O’Brien of Elsberry, Patrick O’Brien and his wife, Christine, of Eolia, MO, Sean O’Brien and his wife, Brenda, of Elsberry, Brendan O’Brien and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry and Siobhan Ogle and her husband, Michael, of Wildwood, MO; one daughter-in-law, Stella O'Brien of St. Paul, MO; one son-in-law, Bill Robertson of Elsberry; many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Margaret also leaves one sister, Nora Lavery of Peoria, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
