Obituary of Helen Lee Tayon
Funeral Services for Helen Lee Tayon of Winfield, MO will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. John Birkhead of New London, MO, will officiate with burial in Winfield Cemetery in Winfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Lomax, Bill Colbert, Eric Tayon, Daniel Holloway, Dennis Hines, Rosco Hines, Ben Wagner and Dusty Wayman.
Mrs. Tayon, 92, passed away Thursday night, September 28, 2017 at the home of her daughter near Winfield. Born August 12, 1925 in the Argentville Community near Winfield, she was the daughter of Benjamin Oren and Cora Parker Birkhead. Helen was a graduate of Winfield High School and went on to attend college. She was united in marriage on September 5, 1944 in Winfield to Delmar Ray Tayon. This union was blessed with three children: Ronald Ray, Curtis Edward and Connie Renee. She was a seamstress for Angelica Garment Factory in Winfield for many years. Helen was a member of New Salem Baptist Church near Winfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Cora Birkhead; three brothers: Benjamin Oren Birkhead, Jr., James Donald Birkhead and George Richard Birkhead; two sisters: Martha Ellen Wayman and Dorothy Elaine Hilton; her beloved husband of 63 years, Delmar Tayon, who died October 24, 2007; and one son, Ron Tayon, who died August 4, 2010.
Survivors include two children: Ed Tayon and Linda, of Winfield and Connie Lomax and her husband, Larry, of Winfield; one daughter-in-law, Diane Tayon of Winfield; and three grandchildren: Cathy Holloway and her husband, Daniel, Eric Tayon and Morgan Lomax, all of Winfield. Helen also leaves one brother, Rev. John Birkhead and his wife, Linda, of New London; three sisters: Marjorie Marie Wagner Montgomery, Jean Frances Brown and her husband, Bob, and Sharon Sue Benny and her husband, Gary, all of Troy, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Services at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield.
