Obituary of Richard Harvey Stewart

Funeral Services for Richard Harvey “Dick” Stewart of Moscow Mills, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, MO. Rev. Bob Norvel, Pastor of the Annada Community Christian Church in Annada, MO, will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Heath Suddarth, Kenny Hatcher, Bruce Stewart, Bruce Ray Stewart, Adam Stewart and Jared Stewart. Mr. Stewart, 85, passed away late Friday afternoon, April 21, 2017 at his home. Born January 2, 1932 in Hannibal, MO, he was the son of Richard Otto and Freda Maxine Watts Stewart. Dick was a 1949 graduate of Elsberry High School. He served his country in the United States Marines. Dick was united in marriage on September 23, 1950 in Corning, AR to Joyce Louise Graham. This union was blessed with three children: Greg, Jan and Rich. Dick worked as a commercial carpenter for Roof Structure Corporation in St. Louis, MO. He also did residential construction and did farming. He was later married again on February 11, 2006 in Annada to Leona Marie Hoskins. Dick was a member of American Legion Post #229 in Elsberry and Carpenters Local #1875 in Winfield, MO. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Freda Stewart; his first wife, Joyce Stewart, who died June 4, 1990; their son, Greg Harris Stewart, who died as an infant; one sister, Alice Faye Stewart, who died in 1994; and one stepson, Kevin Hatcher. Survivors include his wife, Leona Stewart of Moscow Mills; one daughter, Jan Stewart of Eolia, MO; one son, Rich Stewart of Orlando, FL; two stepdaughters: Tammy Reynolds and her husband, Jay, of Elsberry and Tricia Russell of Troy, MO; one stepson, Kenny Hatcher and his wife, Tobie, of Troy; one stepdaughter-in-law, Kathleen Hatcher of St. Peters, MO; three grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Dick also leaves one brother, Harold Gene Stewart and his wife, Dottie, of Annada; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
