We are missing our good friend, Richard today.
He was Richard the kind- hearted. The loves of his life were Betty June Martling and cars! he adored his wife of 66 years from the day they met. They loved dancing, traveling, and befriending people wherever they went. Richard respected and honored his mother, Alvina, and father, Walter, for the whole of his life, and reveled in the childhood pranks and free spirit of his 3 brothers, Charles, Walter, and Ferd. He was a happy-go-lucky, give you his last dime, and tell you stories and corny sayings that would make you laugh kind of guy -- until the dreaded Alzheimer's'. Even when the loss of his memory plagued him, his gentle, kind, and ever-positive companion, Dory, could make him smile. Richard loved to share his prized Margarita recipe, play games, tell stories, and laugh. He would help his neighbors fix anything, or repair a car before he'd tie his own shoe. He and June unselfishly adopted a son who was so neglected that he resorted to eating lead paint as a child. What big hearts this couple had!
Richard served his country in the Korean War by helping o build an airport in England, but mainly met lifelong friends there. Later, his job with Aetna as a Claims Adjustor allowed him to reward the honest and catch those who were trying to abuse the system, to teach them a lesson. Friends, his bride, and cars were Richard's joy in life. Richard never outgrew his love of driving fast cars (he wrecked his share while only receiving scrapes and bruises) and tinkering with them. He was never happier or prouder than riding in his pink or red Thunderbirds which he created from parts. He would never tire of talking about cars or the friends and family he loved.
Richard may your kind and silly spirit forever live in a heaven where laughter and compassion for others is a part of the joys experienced and appreciated every day. Richard will always be our dearest friend. Please, God take care of and reward this lovely man who we will never forget!
With sorry for the world's loss,
Linda and Paul Berteau

Betty June,
I am so very sorry to hear about Richard's passing. Remembering my move to Denver and how much you and Richard took me under your wing and made me feel a part of your family. Richard was always there for me ....and our many trips to the mountains were so fun. I will treasure those memories forever. Much love,
Karen

I am writing this for my family as my parents have very limited computer skills. (Julie)
"I can tell you who the BEST boss I ever had was- Richard Ruegg!" This is something my Dad has said many times. My family first met Richard and June in the early years of our move from Indiana to Colorado and my Dad was hired as a claims adjuster for Aetna insurance. Over the years we spent many happy times with them usually in Estes Park around the campfire at my parents home. Lots of stories were told and good times shared. They were there at my wedding and also many, many of my son Brandon's birthday parties. Richard had a wonderful sense of humor and he always made us smile. Goodbye to Richard, you will be forever remembered and missed by our family. Much love to Betty June from the Reeves family.

Betty June and family, our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you and yoiss at this sorrowful time. Richie was a very dear friend to our whole family and especially to brother Connie (who passed last July). We had many happy, fun teen escapades during our high school years. Richie loved to drive fast and one time we "flew" across hwy 79, but landed safely! He was a sweet, comsiderate, generous person and he will always be remembered fondly God bless you and yours.

June and Bobby - So sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I remember his great sense of humor and how he fixed everything on my 67 BelAir Chevy that I bought from a friend in college for $500 and drove home from South Carolina to Independence MO. As I recall - he didn't charge us a dime as long as we bought the needed parts. I also remember you stopping by our house in Lawrence KS in your RV to visit. I know you will miss him, but know he's in a better place. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. He will be missed I know!

So sorry to learn of Richard's passing. This Bible verse comforted me when my parents passed last year:
Jesus said to his disciples: 'Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.' Thomas said to him, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?' Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'
