Obituary of Betty Sue Smith

Graveside Services for Betty Sue Smith of Elsberry, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home will officiate. Mrs. Smith, 74, passed away Thursday night, March 2, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Born January 17, 1943 in Leeper, MO, she was the daughter of William A. and Ora Jane Clyburn Brown. Betty was united in marriage on April 1, 1961 in St. Louis, MO to Frankie Dan Smith. This union was blessed with two children: Terry Dan and Ronald Alan. Betty worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Witte Brothers. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ora Brown; her beloved husband of 51 years, Frank Smith, who died on January 19, 2013; two sons: one as a stillborn and Ronald Smith; and three sisters: Mary McFadden, Lillie Powlan and Donna Johnson. Survivors include one son, Terry Smith of Elsberry; one grandson, Mark Smith; and two great-grandchildren: Lorelei and Chloe Smith. Betty also leaves three sisters: Inez Parks and her husband, Wayne, of St. Clair, MO, Maggie Thorsland and her husband, William, of Mill Spring, MO and Pamela Hanners and her husband, Robert, of Dettmer, MO; five brothers: Richard “Dick” Brown and his wife, Nadine, of Ellsinore, MO, Thomas Brown and his wife, Trula, of Piedmont, MO, Eugene Brown and his wife, Leann, of Ellsinore, Arden Brown and his wife, Barbara, of Lone Dell, MO and Roger Brown of Ironton, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
