Obituary of Martha Mae Vaughn

Funeral Services for Martha Mae Vaughn of Elsberry, MO will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. John Zellmer, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse Wilson, Randall Van Scoyk, Luke Norton, Jordan Haworth, Les Lonsberry, Ronnie Vaughn, Jr, Dale Robinson and Ronnie Aubuchon. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Van Scoyk and Carrol Cox. Mrs. Vaughn, 100, passed away Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016 at Mercy Hospital Lincoln in Troy, MO. Born July 2, 1915 in Elsberry, she was the daughter of Claude Samuel and Dora Elizabeth Pence Robinson. Martha was united in marriage on September 13, 1934 in St. Charles, MO to Charles T. Vaughn. This union was blessed with two children: Gloria and Larry “Tinker.” She worked for a number of years as a seamstress. Martha was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Dora Robinson; thirteen brothers and sisters: James Charles Robinson, Robert Thomas Robinson, Naomi Lee Robinson, Floyd Samuel Robinson, Sarah Frances Cox, Forrest Robinson, Ben Herald Robinson, Ralph Radford Robinson, Mary Ellen Robinson, who was her twin, Curtis Edward Robinson, Arnold Woodrow Robinson, Dora Ruth Robinson and Alma Logan; her daughter, Gloria Tolbert who died November 19, 2011; her son, Larry “Tinker” Vaughn, who died April 13, 2013; one granddaughter, Rhonda Tolbert who died December 7, 2005; and her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles Vaughn, who died October 23, 1993. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Vaughn of Elsberry; her son-in-law, Randall Tolbert also of Elsberry; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. Martha also leaves a host of friends and her church family. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church.
