Obituary of Donald Paul O'Brien
A Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Paul O’Brien of O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. Father Charles Tichacek, pastor of Sacred Heart Church will officiate, assisted by Father Gerald Blessing, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed O’Brien, Michael O’Brien, Patrick O’Brien, Sean O’Brien, Brendan O’Brien and Eddie O’Brien.
Don O’Brien, 54, passed away Sunday evening, March 27, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital Lincoln in Troy, MO. Born March 16, 1962 in Troy, MO, he was the son of Edward John and Margaret Mary Curtin O’Brien. He was a 1980 graduate of Elsberry High School, and attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO. He owned and operated the Golden Corral Restaurant in Moberly, MO for several years. He returned to the St. Charles and Lincoln Counties area where he has farmed and worked in Real Estate. He was united in marriage on October 10, 1998 at Sacred Heart Church in Elsberry to Stella Annette Cherniawski. He was a member of the Lincoln-Pike Cattleman’s Association. He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul, MO.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward O’Brien; one sister, Patricia O’Brien Robertson; and his father-in-law, Alex Cherniawski.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 17 years, Stella O’Brien of O’Fallon; six children that blessed their home: Tiffany Ramo and her husband, Wayne, of Montgomery City, MO, Celeste Rose O’Brien and Lara Margaret O’Brien of O’Fallon, Alyssa Emily Hawn and her husband, Eli Peller, of Roseville, OH, Traci Denise Hawn of Winter Park, FL, and Daniel William Hawn of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren: Alexis, Oakley and Rylee. He also leaves his dear mother, Margaret O’Brien of Elsberry; his mother-in-law, Laura Cherniawski of O’Fallon; five brothers: Edward O’Brien and his wife, Connie, of Clarksville, MO, Michael O’Brien of Elsberry, Patrick O’Brien and his wife, Christine, of Eolia, MO, Sean O’Brien and his wife, Brenda, of Elsberry, and Brendan O’Brien and his wife, Donna, of Elsberry; five sisters: Ellen Schramm and her husband, Leroy, of Wentzville, MO, Bridget Hummel and her husband, Chris, of Bowling Green, MO, Maureen Wommack and her husband, David, of Silex, MO, Peggy Carson and her husband, Ed, of Chesterfield, MO, and Siobhan Ogle and her husband, Michael, of Wildwood, MO; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry, and from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the church. Memorials may be made to the J.R. Palmer Family Memorial Library or to the St. Paul Catholic School in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
