Obituary of Virgil John Lagemann
A Mass of Christian Burial for Virgil John Lagemann of Elsberry, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsberry. Fr. Charles Tichacek, church pastor, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Chester Koch, Ron Hardy, James Tangmann, Rob Lovelace, Kevin Whitehead and John Koch. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Koch, Shawn Lauer, Roy Whitehead, Eric Lovelace, Michael Lovelace, James Tangmann, Nicholas Tangmann, Travis Tangmann, Jimmy Jeans, Rick Heitman and Dale Hurley.
Mr. Lagemann, 86, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 23, 2016 at his home. Born May 15, 1929 in New Haven, MO, he was the son of Alfred L. and Louise Daley Lagemann. John was united in marriage on September 9, 1950 in Elsberry to Pearl Victoria Holcomb. This union was blessed with seven daughters: Marjorie, Marilyn, Rebecca, Patricia, Norma, Janet and Mary. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Holcim, retiring in 1991. John was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was active with the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Louise Lagemann; five brothers: Eddie Lagemann, Vincent Lagemann, Wayne Lagemann, Thomas “Nick” Lagemann and Jerry Lagemann; and three sisters: Kathryn Scherer, Dorothy Singleton and Bibi Killebrew.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Pearl Lagemann of Elsberry; seven daughters: Marjorie Koch and her husband, Chester, of Elsberry, Marilyn Hardy and her husband Ron, of Olathe, KS, Rebecca Tangmann and her husband, James, of Hattiesburg, MS, Patricia Davison of Fenton, MO, Norma Lauer of St. Peters, MO, Janet Lovelace and her husband, Rob, of Elsberry and Mary Whitehead and her husband, Kevin, also of Elsberry; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. John also leaves two brothers: Joe Lagemann, who was his twin, and his wife, Delores, of Center, MO and Philip Lagemann and his wife, Wilma, of Eolia, MO; one sister, Margaret Kientzy of Silex, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
