Obituary of Stanley Walter Scoggins
Funeral Services for Stanley Walter “Turp” Scoggins of Winfield, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Duane Blackmore of Conway, AR will officiate with burial in Star Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd Powelson, Dwight Powelson, Ryan Flanigan, Kevin Sipes, David Meadows and Jack Ivy.
Mr. Scoggins, 80, passed away early Sunday morning, September 20, 2015 at his home. Born February 11, 1935 in Kane, Illinois, he was one of fourteen children born to Lafe and Ruth Burns Scoggins. Stanley “Turp” served his country in the United States Army Artillery from October 15, 1954 until he was honorably discharged on October 4, 1956 as a SP3 (T). Stanley was united in marriage on September 12, 1992 in Foley, MO to Claire Gail Powelson. He was employed as an inspector at McDonnell-Douglas, retiring in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafe and Ruth Scoggins; two sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 23 years, Claire Gail Scoggins of Winfield; two children: Stanley Scoggins, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Godfrey, IL and Dee Dee Woodring and her husband, Danny, of Streator, IL; two grandchildren: Josh Scoggins and Ricky Scoggins; and one great-grandchild, Israel Scoggins. Stanley “Turp” also leaves one brother, Lafe “Tadd” of Illinois; five sisters: Irene, Deloris, Doris and Florence, all of Illinois and Lorene of Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
