Obituary of Marvin Schacher

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors for Marvin “Sonny” Schacher of Old Monroe, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at St. Paul United Church of Christ Cemetery near Old Monroe. Rev. Eugene Rahmier will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post #420 from Old Monroe. Mr. Schacher, 86, passed away Wednesday morning, June 10, 2015 at Garden View Care Center in O’Fallon, MO. Born November 28, 1928 in Old Monroe, he was the son of Fred Henry and Nora Catherine Dickbernd Schacher. A lifelong resident of Old Monroe, Sonny was a 1947 graduate of St. Charles High School in St. Charles, MO. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from March 6, 1951 until February 14, 1953. At this time, Sonny joined the Old Monroe American Legion Post #420 where was a member for over 63 years. Sonny then served in the Army Reserves until he was discharged as a Corporal on August 31, 1956. Sonny owned and operated Schacher Store, which had been in his family for 111 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. Sonny was also a member of the Old Monroe Lions Club and the Winfield/Old Monroe VFW Post #5517. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nora Schacher; and his sister, Juanita Marie Schacher, who died in 1997. Survivors include his dear friends; his church family; his customers of many years; relatives; and many other friends.
