In Loving Memory of my Dear Aunt –
Kathryn Grace Ricks
Today I heard you will be traveling beyond these earthly skies.
And I felt your presence as I sat to watch the sun rise.
Then did a Blue Jay come to bid me adieu.
Its familiar song rang out, and I wondered was it you?
Without fear or judgment she sent music into the wind.
And I was reminded of the love you showed us how to send.
Curiously near she stayed with me for a spell.
Caught deep in emotions now - was this my farewell?
Then into the sun through prisms of light, came this through my tear.
“This world is whatever you wish, so wish it my dear.”
I sat there confused and pondered for a while.
Then these thoughts came to me and I began to smile.
*************
I wish for choirs of blue and singing angels too.
The lessons we learned, who could have knew.
There’s a big cookie jar and some red velvet cake.
Simple gifts of love you so often would bake.
I see books, and stories, giving little children delights.
Fun hidden games, and pretty Christmas lights.
Bring me a world with more people that care.
People like you that still believe in a prayer.
And now I see trees of green and soon red roses too.
I will watch them bloom just for me and you.
Then when this season ends and each petal has unfurled
I’ll think to myself what a wonderful world.
Because of you our world is such a better place.
This is how you’ll be remembered - our Kathryn Grace.

My heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Allan and Carol. It feels like the end of an era....your family has always been such a blessed connection to the Parks Family. Kathryn used to love to tell the story of how she slipped into the Parks home on the night I was born to take care of Bobby and Paul.

How sorry I am for your loss, and for the loss of all of us who loved Kathryn. She made such an impact on my life by directing choir throughout my youth and for faithfully playing the organ forever. My mom thought that she was a miracle worker because she almost taught me how, to carry a tune. Before we came to Elsberry, I occasionally sang at church while my mother hung her head in shame. She told me that I sang at the top of my lungs just like "Little Johnny One Note." She was no longer embarrassed after your mom had spent 5-6 years working on teaching me how to sing a few notes! May your sorrow be mitigated by remembering how much Kathryn gave to this world. She will be missed so much.

I'm leaving a very fond memory: I believe she taught music to me and whole bunch of others probably over 45 years ago. I love music to this day. Thank God for Mrs. Ricks!

I am sad that Kathryn is gone, but so joyful that she is reunited with O'Garlan, Chris and those who went before. She was such a special woman to me and my family. An example of a life well lived. Kathryn was a noble lady in the truest sense of those words. Her elegance, compassion, intellect, and personal charm injected bold life into her community. She took her citizenship seriously and was a positive, motivating inspiration to all who knew her. Your loss is our loss. I just hope that I can live my life in a way that does honor to her and what she taught us by her example. We admired her, we sought to be like her, but most of all we simply loved her. God must be rejoicing to have her with Him.
