Obituary of Allen Ray Mills

Funeral Services for Allen Ray Mills of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Jeff Gordon, pastor of the Elsberry Holiness Church and Greg Pflasterer of the Elsberry First Baptist Church, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Tayon, Andrew Adcock, Colby Wehde, David Davis, Ryan Mills, James Ray Roberts, Scott Mills and Grant Mills; honorary pallbearers will be Veronica Whiteside, Richard Allen Whiteside, Nathaniel Mills, Joshua Mills and Ralph "Penny" Mills. Mr. Mills, 61, passed away Saturday evening, December 7, 2013 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born May 15, 1952 in Louisiana, MO, he was the son of Ray E. and Ruth Bernice Suddarth Mills, Jr. A lifelong resident of Elsberry, he was a 1970 graduate of Elsberry High School. He was united in marriage on September 9, 1979 in Elsberry to Deborah Annette Hooks. This union was blessed with two daughters, Raychel Annette and Jenna Ann. He worked as a meat cutter at the Elsberry IGA for 13 years. He owned and operated B & H Hauling from 1982 through 1988. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic at MEMC in St. Peters, MO for 19 years before retiring in 2006. He was a member and Shop Steward of the International Association of Machinists in Bridgeton, MO. He enjoyed the Gold Prospectors Club in St. Louis, MO. He was a member of the Elsberry First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray "Jiggs" and Bernice Mills, Jr.; his sister, Reita Ann Mills; and his brother, William Andrew "Bill" Mills. Survivors include his beloved wife of 34 years, Annette Mills of Elsberry; two daughters: Raychel Whiteside and her husband, Richard W., of Foley, MO and Jenna Mills of Elsberry; and six grandchildren: Veronica Annette, Richard Allen, Nathaniel William, Joshua Ray, Gwendolyn Alyssa Bernice and Madalynn Sandra. He also leaves one sister, Judy Kay Ivy of Elsberry; his mother-in-law, Jeannette Hooks of Winfield; one brother-in-law, Herb Hooks and wife, Karen, of Troy, MO; four sisters-in-law, Susan Mills of Elsberry, Diane Adcock of Troy, Lisa Tayon and husband, Alan, of Winfield, and Anna Marie Hooks of Winfield; a special cousin, Ralph "Penny" Mills and his wife, Judy, of Riverside, CA; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
