Obituary of Harry William Zumwalt

Graveside Services for Harry William Zumwalt of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 16 at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Elsberry. Rev. Richard Pillers, pastor of Elsberry Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler McNelly, Jim Pruitt, David McNelly, Scott Pruitt, John Pruitt and Levi Pruitt. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Dean Kinsler. Mr. Zumwalt, 85, passed away Wednesday night, September 11, 2013 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, MO. Born January 22, 1928 in Elsberry, he was the son of William Herman and Mary Ada Bowles Zumwalt. He served his country in the United States Army from April 3, 1946 until being honorably discharged on April 19, 1947 as a Private First Class. He was united in marriage on February 27, 1960 in Elsberry to Bettye Frances Jamison. He worked as a farmer. Mr. Zumwalt was later united in marriage on July 7, 1997 in Elsberry to Pearl Mae Jobe. He was a member of Elsberry Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Zumwalt; one brother, Robert Lee Zumwalt in 1975; and his first wife, Bettye Zumwalt on April 27, 1983. Survivors include his beloved wife of 16 years, Pearl Zumwalt of Elsberry; three stepsons: David Harold McNelly of Quincy, IL, Thomas Dale McNelly of Quincy, and Calvin George McNelly and his wife, Tina, of Elsberry; one stepdaughter, Regina Kay Pruitt and her husband, John, of Elsberry; many grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister-in-law, Shirley Zumwalt of Columbia, MO; other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Elsberry Assembly of God Church in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home; 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO.
