Obituary of Bernice K. Rice

Bernice Martha Cecelia Rice Bernice Martha Cecelia Rice was born on April 5, 1920 in Schulersburg, Missouri, the daughter of Berthold and Katherine Bergsieker Siefker. She passed away Thursday morning, July 21, 2005 at the Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, Missouri. She had reached the age of 85 years, 3 months and 16 days. She graduated from Augusta High School and attended Practical Nursing School. She was united in marriage on February 15, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Eugene Rice. Bernice owned and operated a nursing home in Grinnell, Iowa for several years. She also managed Sunset Nursing Home in Elsberry, Missouri for many years. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She baked wonderful wedding and birthday cakes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Berthold and Katherine Bergsieker Siefker; one brother, Elmer Siefker, Sr.; three sisters: Leona Fisher, Ruby Smith Gibbons, and Mabel Hughes; and her beloved husband, Eugene Rice, who died April 10, 1963. Bernice is survived by a special friend, Richard Brown, of Elsberry, Missouri; one great niece, Nancy Siefker; two nephews: Elmer Siefker, Jr. and Virgil Meyer; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Bernice will be greatly missed by her family and many, many friends.
