Obituary of Glen James Mills
Funeral services for Glen James Mills of Elsberry, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Sammy Lorton, pastor of the Whiteside Holiness Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Mills, Harlan Scherrer, Scott Mills, Darren Mills, Rob Mills and Grant Mills.
Mr. Mills, 93, passed away early Sunday morning, April 14, 2013 at St. Joseph West Hospital in Lake Saint Louis, MO. Born November 11, 1919 in Elsberry, he was the son of Raymond Elmer and Sarah Edna Admire Mills. He was united in marriage on October 31, 1939 in Union, MO to Dorris Eileen Doll. This union was blessed with two children, Leslie and Rick. He served his country in the U.S. Army at a young age; and enlisted again in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for many years as an automotive service manager for various car dealerships in the St. Louis area, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Automotive Service Manager's Association.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth Ann Mills at the age of three, and Oneita Robinson in 1950; three brothers: Ray Mills, Jr. in 1977, Lavern "Dutch" Mills in 2000 and Ralph Mills in 2005; his son, Rick Mills in 1978; and his beloved wife of almost 58 years, Dorris Mills who died August 24, 1997.
Survivors include his daughter, Leslie Gulledge and her husband, Charles, of Richardson, TX; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Marcella Owens and her husband, John, of Paynesville, MO, and Mary Velma Robinson of Elsberry; several cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
