Obituary of Larry Vaughn

Funeral services for Larry Wayne "Tinker" Vaughn of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. John Zellmer, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Lewis, Ronnie Vaughn, Jr., Lance Lewis, John Lewis, Bill Wehde, Joe Robinson, Jerry Lewis and Luke Norton. Mr. Vaughn, 77, passed away Saturday evening, April 13, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO. Born April 20, 1935 in Elsberry, he was the son of Charles T. and Martha Mae Robinson Vaughn. A lifelong resident of Elsberry, he was a 1953 graduate of Elsberry High School. He was united in marriage on June 1, 1957 in Annada, MO to Dorothy Joean Lewis. This union was blessed with two daughters, Terrie and Lisa. Employed at McDonnell-Douglas for almost 34 years, he rose through the ranks of the aircraft manufacturer to the position of inspector, retiring in June of 1990. He was an agent for the Reliable Life Insurance Co. from 1990 until 1995. In the early 70s, he served as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Lincoln County. Active in his community, he was a former member of the Lincoln County R-2 School Board; was a Khourey League Softball Coach for many years; and was a member of the Elsberry Lions Club. He was an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles T. Vaughn; and one sister, Gloria Tolbert. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 56 years, Dorothy Vaughn of Elsberry; two daughters: Terrie Harper and Lisa Vaughn, both of Elsberry; four grandchildren: Haley Harper-Haworth, Katie Harper, Luke Norton and his wife, Jackie, and Randi Jo Norton; and three great-grandchildren: Ava and Ella Haworth and Zane Norton. He also leaves his devoted mother, Martha Vaughn of Elsberry; several in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry; and from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17th at New Hope Baptist Church.
