Obituary of Barbara Howard

Funeral services for Barbara Lindell Glisson Howard of Elsberry, MO will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Bro. Lamar Hester, minister of Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ in Troy, MO will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Talbot, Brandon Talbot, Chad Dormire, Dylan Howard, Brock Howard, Tyler Howard, Kevin Glisson and Randall Glisson. Mrs. Howard, 78, passed away Friday evening, April 12, 2013 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born June 11, 1934 in Cunningham, KY, she was the daughter of L. Wallace "L.W." and Rubye Juanita Dossett Glisson. Raised in Lovelaceville, KY, she was a 1951 graduate of Lone Oak High School in Paducah, KY. She was united in marriage on September 10, 1954 in Cunningham, KY to David William "Bill" Howard. This union was blessed with three children: Carla Renee, David Keith and Kyle William. She was employed as a U.S. Postal Service rural mail carrier for many years, retiring in 1995. She volunteered for many years at the Elsberry Public Library and then the J.R. Palmer Library in Elsberry. She was a long-time member of the DNC Club in Elsberry. Barbara was an active and faithful member of the Louisiana Church of Christ from 1956 until 2000 when her health began to fail. She was currently a member of the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ in Troy. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.W. and Rubye Glisson; one brother, John Glisson; one grandson, Lucas Andrew "Luke" Talbot in 1985; and her beloved husband of 36 years, Bill Howard, who died August 3, 1990. Survivors include her children: Carla Talbot and her husband, Joe, of Elsberry, Keith Howard and his wife, Theresa, of Elsberry, and Kyle Howard and his wife, Tracy, also of Elsberry; seven grandchildren: Brandon (Shelley) Talbot, Jodie (Chad) Dormire, Tyler Howard, Kelsie Howard, Sarah Howard, Dylan Howard and Brock Howard; three step-grandchildren: Jonathan Osborne, Tyler Price and Dalton Price; and three great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Talbot, Isabella Talbot and Brynnli Dormire. She also leaves one brother, David Glisson and his wife, Naretta, of Antioch, TN; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Glisson of Paducah, and Kathryn Howard of Elsberry; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the J.R.
