Obituary of Roy Forrest Johnston

Funeral Services for Roy Forrest Johnston of Foley, MO, will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, February 11, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Rev. Mike Ryan pastor of First Baptist Church of Winfield, will officiate with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Johnston, 85, passed away Wednesday night, February 6, 2013 at his home. Born April 14, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of William F. and Edith Hudson Johnston. After graduating high school, he served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II from July 11, 1945 until being honorably discharged s a Staff Sergeant on January 21, 1947. He then attended Penn State where he received his Bachelors degree. He was united in marriage in Redwing, MN in 1956 to Ada Viola Kinckiner. This union was blessed with seven children: Cheryl, Vada Joyce, Roy, Randy, Richard, Brian and Ronald. He was a Boy Scout leader for over 25 years. He was a member and past master of Crestwood-Anchor Lodge #442 of Crestwood, MO, a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis, MO, and a member and guide of the Moolah Shriners of St. Louis. He was a member and past worthy patron of Eastern Star Chapter #212 of St. Louis. He was a 40 year member of VFW Post #6211 in Overland, MO and later a life member of VFW Post #5517 of Winfield. He also had served as VFW Commander of District 8 and later of District 12. He was State Membership Chairman of the Missouri State VFW. He was an avid Race fan, Train Hobbyist, and Roller Skate Dance competitions. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edith Johnston; one son, Richard Johnston; one brother, William Johnston; and his beloved wife of 47 years, Ada Johnston on October 2, 2001. Survivors include four sons: Roy Johnston and his wife, Therese, of Foley, Dr. Randy Johnston and his wife, Teresa, of Jackson, TN, Brian Johnston and his wife, Michelle, of Jonesburg, MO and Ronald Johnston and his wife, Dena, of Gulf Breeze, FL; two daughters: Cheryl Lipford and her husband, Ron, of Nashville, TN and Vada Joyce Seals and her husband, Mark, of Chicago, IL; ten grandchildren: Jennifer McMullen and her husband, John, Jason Lipford and his wife Araceli, Kevin and Stephanie Seals, Joshua Johnston and his wife, Meghan, Brandon and Alyssa Johnston, Winston and Louise Johnston, and Lucas Folta; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon Monday, February 11, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
