Obituary of Herschel Birt Tiller

Funeral Services for Herschel Birt Tiller of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. J. Larry Carter of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, will officiate with burial will be in Corinth Cemetery in Foley, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Sharpe, Craig Stonebraker, Christopher Tiller, Pat Stonebraker, Steven Sharpe and Allen Stonebraker. Mr. Tiller, 90, passed away Monday night, February 4, 2013 at his home. Born January 27, 1923 in Foley, he was the son of Birt and Vera Stonebraker Tiller. He was a 1941 graduate of Elsberry High School. He served his country in the United States Navy with the 91st Seabees from March 3, 1943 until being honorably discharged as a Shipfitter, Second Class (T) on January 8, 1946. He then worked as an installer and repairman for Southwestern Bell, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Elsberry American Legion Post #226, Elsberry VFW Post #5077 and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Birt and Vera Tiller; one sister, Ruth Ligon; and one brother, Ralph Tiller as an infant. Survivors include one son, Phillip Tiller of Winfield, MO; one daughter, Lesa Miller and her husband, Dr. Stanley Miller, of Elsberry; and four grandchildren: Christopher Tiller of Old Monroe, MO, Addie Tiller of Cape Girardeau, MO, Devon Miller of Maplewood, MO and Emma Miller of Columbia, MO. He also leaves other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to Corinth Cemetery or American Legion Post #226 in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home; 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
