Obituary of Kenneth Lee Fakes

Mr. Kenneth Lee Fakes, 81, of Ashland, MO, formerly of Elsberry, MO, passed away Tuesday morning, December 4, 2012 at Ashland Villas in Ashland. Born February 6, 1931 in Hanston, KS, he was the son of Chester Ben and Alice Jeanette Mead Fakes. After graduating high school in Kansas, he went on to serve his country in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict from April 1, 1952 until being honorably discharged as a Corporal on March 4, 1954. He was united in marriage on July 13, 1952 in Elsberry, MO to Elizabeth Charlene Hines. This union was blessed with four children: Cathy, Karen, Ben and Joe. He worked for 13 years as a sheet metal worker for McDonnell Douglas. Mr. Fakes was also a self employed carpenter. He then worked for 15 years as a stocker and door greeter for Wal-Mart. . He was a member of the American Legion Post #226 and was past Commander. He was also a member of the former Odd Fellows Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Alice Fakes; two brothers: Edward Max Fakes and Chester Ben Fakes and his wife, Mildred; one sister, Jessie Hausgen and her husband, Richard; and his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Elizabeth Fakes on July 12, 2007. Survivors include two daughters: Cathy Cooper and her husband, Harry, of Elsberry and Karen Wolf and her husband, Terry, of Hayes, KS; and two sons: Ben Fakes and his wife, Claudia, of New Llano, LA and Joe Fakes of Elsberry. He also leaves six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren, nine step-great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Inurnment and Military Honors will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Family of Kenneth Fakes or to Hospice Compassus in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home; 107 S. 5th Street; Elsberry, MO 63343.
