Obituary of William Lee Machir

William Lee Machir Funeral services for William Lee "Bill" Machir of Foley, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield, MO. Elder Mike Dickherber of Winfield will officiate with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. in the Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Machir, Perry Machir, Dickie Whiteside, Daniel Machir, Christopher Machir and Clete Friedman. Mr. Machir, 83, passed away late Wednesday evening, June 27, 2012 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born January 10, 1929 in the Dameron Community near Elsberry, MO, he was the son of William H. "Buck" and Helen Lee Whiteside Machir. A lifelong resident of eastern Lincoln County, he was a 1947 graduate of Elsberry High School and attended two years at Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage on July 5, 1952 at the Christian Church in Troy, MO to Bobette Jo Hopkins. This union was blessed with two sons, Patrick Lee and Perry Robert. He was employed for 35 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, first as a lineman and later as a PBX installer. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1983. He was a member of the Southwestern Bell Pioneers and the American Legion Post #226 in Elsberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Helen Machir; one daughter, Beth Ann Machir; and a granddaughter, Beth Ann Machir. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Bobette Machir of Foley; their sons: Patrick Machir of Columbia, MO, and Perry Machir of Foley; four grandchildren: Daniel L. Machir, Lachelle Kozma and her husband, Matt, Christopher J. Machir and Sarah Aletha Machir; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Lynn Kozma. He also leaves his uncle, Richard F. "Dick" Whiteside, Jr. of Foley; several cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
