Obituary of Alice Geneva Watts

Alice Geneva Watts Funeral Services for Alice Geneva Watts of Elsberry, MO, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Centennial Methodist Church in Elsberry. Rev. Doug Roam, pastor of the Elsberry Apostolic Pentecostal Church and Rev. Brenda Cockrell, Centennial Methodist Church pastor, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Blair, Rodney Powell, Dean Kinsler, Terrell Mathis, James Webster and Keenan Blair; honorary pallbearers will be Barnell Morris, William Powell, Danny Kinsler, Joe Wayman and Hugh K. Steavenson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Mrs. Watts, 88, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012 at Troy Manor in Troy, MO. Born May 28, 1923 in Auburn, MO, she was the daughter of Homer and Georgeanna Thomas Powell. She was united in marriage on September 16, 1944 in Elsberry to Edward Jackson "Jack" Watts. This union was blessed with three children: Edward, Jr., Michael Anthony and Rita Ann. She worked for over fifty years for the Steavenson family and Forrest Keeling Nursery in Elsberry. She was a member of the Centennial Methodist Church in Elsberry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Georgeanna Powell; two sisters: Dorothy Farris and Bernice Collins; two brothers: Floyd Powell and Vincent Powell; and her beloved husband of 47 years, Jack Watts who died on October 18, 1991. Survivors include two sons: Edward Watts, Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Quincy, IL, and Michael A. Watts and his wife, Roberta, of Louisiana, MO; one daughter, Rita Robinson and her husband, Marvin, of Elsberry, MO; a former daughter-in-law, Wanda Watts of St. Charles, MO; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Helen Webster of Elsberry, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Centennial Methodist Church in Elsberry.
