Obituary of Arthur Henry Burkemper

Arthur Henry Burkemper A mass of Christian Burial for Arthur Henry Burkemper of Old Monroe, MO, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Monroe, MO. Fr. Philip Krahman, church pastor, Fr. Tim Cook of Ferguson, MO, and Msgr. Gregory Schmidt of Webster Groves, MO, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Old Monroe. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Henke, Paul Henke, Mark Henke, Brian Henke, Brent Burkemper, Jamie Burkemper, John Conlon and Dan Burkemper. Mr. Burkemper, 93, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2012 at Assisted Living at the Meadowlands in O'Fallon, MO. Born October 22, 1918 in Old Monroe, he was the son of Alex L. and Rose M. Wehde Burkemper. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1942 in Flint Hill, MO to Anna Feldewerth. This union was blessed with five children: Leroy, Mary, Jack, Dick and Melvin. Anna passed away on May 26, 1955. Having been raised in the Old Monroe area, Art was a farmer for many, many years. He was married again on June 6, 1959 in O'Fallon to Elvera Molitor Henke, with her children Randall and Bonnie joining the family. Art and Elvera became the parents of Victoria. He was a 4-H leader for many years. He served as a board member of the Bank of Old Monroe for 26 years; and was the long-time treasurer of the Monroe Mutual Insurance Company in Old Monroe. He also served as a member of the Lincoln County FSA Board. He was a member of the Old Monroe Lions Club. Mr. Burkemper was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Holy Name Society. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Rose Burkemper; two brothers: Sylvester Burkemper, who died as a child, and Victor Burkemper in 2008; four sisters: Blanche Burkemper who died as a child, Catherine Hill in 1970, Evelyn Cook in 2004, and Teresa Lindeman in 2009; and his first wife of almost 13 years, Anna Burkemper on May 26, 1955. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Elvera Burkemper of Old Monroe; four sons: Leroy Burkemper and his wife, Patty, of Rosemont, MN, John "Jack" Burkemper and his wife, Ginger, of Elsberry, MO, Richard "Dick" Burkemper and his wife, Mary, of Clayton, MO and Melvin Burkemper and his wife, Kathy, of Old Monroe; one stepson, Randall Henke and his wife, Ruth, of Old Monroe; two daughters: Mary Conlon of Hazelwood, MO and Victoria Borron and her husband, Bob, of Holden, MO; one stepdaughter, Bonnie LeMunyon and her husband, Frank, of Webster Groves, MO; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Chris Burkemper and his wife, Virginia, of Old Monroe; two sisters: Sister Wilhelmia Burkemper of Oldenberg, IN, and Rose Ann Coose of Sarasota, FL; two brothers-in-law: John Cook of Florissant, MO and Harold Hill of Flint Hill, MO; one sister-in-law, Esther Burkemper of Old Monroe; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, MO.
