Obituary of Catharine Louise Stocker Vickrey

A Memorial Service for Catharine Louise Stocker Vickrey of Troy, MO, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab in Troy. Inurnment will take place in June at the Cold Springs Cemetery in Cold Spring, New Jersey. Mrs. Vickrey, 103, passed away Thursday night, March 6, 2014 at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab in Troy. Born July 7, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Wildwood, NJ, she was the daughter of Fred and Edith Timpe Stocker and step-father, Millard Richardson. She graduated from high school in Wildwood. At the age of 27, she moved to Los Angeles, CA. She was united in marriage on June 15, 1946 in Los Angeles to James Tucker Vickrey. She worked as an Escrow Agent for Bank of America in Glendale, CA for thirty-eight years. She loved the outdoors, hiking in the mountains, rafting down the Colorado River, and enjoyed looking for artifacts in Arizona. She was a member of the Sierra Club. She was an excellent tennis player, and was an NRA Sharpshooter. Catharine was an artist who copied the Great Masters and also drew original drawings. She also had a great love for music, especially operettas. She sang with a choral group. Catharine was always trying to learn to play the piano, even into her late 90s. Catharine wrote a book, "My Stranger, My Love," which was completed when she was 97 years of age. Catharine smiled at everyone and really enjoyed their smiles in return. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Edith Stocker; step-father, Millard Richardson, one brother, Otto F. Stocker; one sister, Harriett B. Jackson; and her beloved husband of 59 years, James Vickrey who died in June 2005. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
