Obituary of Walter Schappe

Walter Schappe Funeral services for Walter Schappe of Elsberry, MO will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Pillers, pastor of the Elsberry Assembly of God Church, will officiate with burial in the Elsberry City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Rusty Douglas, Brian Schappe, Doug Schappe, Bobby Gladney, Scott Mills and Gilbert Watts. Mr. Schappe, 77, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO. Born October 25, 1933 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Felix and Lulu Stoltz Schappe. He was united in marriage on April 18, 1953 in St. Louis to Mary Sue Tucker. This union was blessed with three sons, Daniel, Donald and Steven. He owned and operated Schappe Auto Body in O'Fallon, MO for many years until he retired in 1987. Mr.& Mrs. Schappe moved to the Elsberry area in 1993. He was a member of Vintage Chevy Cars of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Lulu Schappe; his beloved wife of almost 43 years, Mary Schappe who died March 11, 1996; their son, Steven E. Schappe in 1961; two sisters: Verna McDaniels and Mildred Carroll; and two brothers: Raymond Schappe and Edwin Schappe. Survivors include his companion, Barb Applequist of Warren, OH; two sons: Daniel Schappe and his wife, Renee, of Perry, MO, and Donald Schappe also of Perry; and three grandchildren: Katherine Schappe, Jonathan Schappe and Tiffy Sortis. He also leaves a step-son, Rick Lawrence and his wife, Mary, of Warren, OH; a step-daughter, Becky Littell of Erie, PA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.
